But doordash was literally paying investor money to drivers as part of their boot up process and the drivers all got pissed when it stopped. They also apparently had the lowest driver qualification checks. I had bad enough service with the other options so I'm glad I never used doordash.

Other than maybe your average pyramid scheme selling suppliments or whatever, there is no bigger scam than food delivery. Even pizza delivery from back in the day were mostly scams, charging a "delivery fee" that doesn't go to the driver.
If you have a really local place within a mile or 2 that does their own delivery, sometimes you can have a good deal, but I have no problem driving my ass out to pickup. I haven't ordered any food delivery since I lived in Germany. it was really good pizza and salad, and they would actually deliver beers, oh man, that was the best.

Food delivery really only makes sense if you're ordering as a group. The more people who order food means the less of a delivery charge hit there is.
But if you're ordering just for you, then you're going to practically double how much you pay

Setting aside the fact that it's an incredibly ghetto thing to do, the food wouldn't even be good by the time you got it.

I don't use delivery services. I call restaurants and pick up my food. I'd rather more of my money go to the restaurant, I don't want to pay a delivery fee, I don't want to pay a tip, and I want fewer opportunities for people to screw up/with my food. Also, it's nice getting out of the house for a short trip given that I'm staying home most of the time because of COVID-19.

That said, I feel like people are idiots about this whole thing. People complain about the cost of deliveries while placing small orders from restaurants with delivery fees, which will mean more of your order will be fees by ratio. People complain about the cost of of the deliveries on the whole, seemingly without taking into account that a driver has to give up the time in his life to do the order, which includes traveling to the restaurant, waiting for the order to be ready, and then traveling out to you. This is so obviously going to add a large amount of human labor costs to the equation that I don't understand why people are surprised. If the opportunity cost of doing that process was so low, you'd be getting the food yourself, not paying someone else to deliver it for you. If that person has the expectation of being payed something remotely worth his time, then it's going to add $5-10 immediately to your order, not even counting any other costs like vehicle maintenance or fuel.

Restaurants complaining about the price of commission is also puzzling. I get it, restaurant margins are tiny. Most restaurants fail. +25% commission is painful. So, why did you sign up for the service then? Why do you continue to stay on the service? I know for a fact that several of these ordering services are monthly contracts that can be canceled near immediately, including Grubhub. If you think the service isn't worth it, then just leave. Make your own website. Manage your own online content. Handle your own online transactions. Hire your own drivers. Advertise your own restaurant. Handle your own customer complaints. Or don't do any of that. Not every restaurant is online, and they can do just fine. Most of my favorite local restaurants are walk-in/call-in only, and have been for years. If you think ordering services are a raw deal and not worth the commission cost, then leave. No one owes you online infrastructure for free.
