1. Pizza is subpar despite large Italian community and proximity to the best pizzerias (Trenton style pizza is GOAT)
2. Everythings becoming brooklyn-ified, by that I mean drug addled whites take popular working class dishes and hock them as "gourmet" or "artisanal" and charge 4x what they are worth. Examples:
i. the most popular "dim sum" is a joint run by whites in a trendy area and isnt even dim sum, just chinese food with some pork buns and a few dumplings. very expensive for what you get
ii. most popular pizza joint is some snooty fuck place that charges $22 for their cheapest pie. they also do "artisanal hoagies"

fuck if i had more time id list more garbage. it isnt all bad though, we have very good mexican and vietnamese here.

Practically nonexistent. We have a couple of decent burger places and one hipster vegetarian pizza place. The rest is overpriced chain restaurants and takeaways who serve drunk pikey slop.

My whole state has no culinary identity. Cincinnati chili is really good, but you should just make it yourself instead of going to skyline. It also makes it a lot harder to just find a good "Mexican" place cause theres a chance its got a lot of texmex items or inspired foods anyway. Like ordering queso and chips and getting a large bowl of very thick yellow melted cheese. So many of the texmex items ive seen or tried seem to be "fuck up a mexican dish with something and then cover it in jack cheese".

This is regional NSW. Pretty much copypaste nearly everywhere you go. Pub food, chinese restaurants out the arse, some thai (nice one we got here actually), kebab shop, this one kinda interesting mexican restaurant, sushi eat-ins that keep going out of business here, the odd "trendy" cafe, couple of fish and chip shops. And of course all the usual fast food shit here.

Also STL anon here. I actually like the food scene here though, I guess it just depends on where you go. I don't mind Imo's, just sucks because I moved & I was pretty close to pi & used to get it delivered at least once a week. Our BBQ is pretty damn good, fucking hate St Louis style sauce though, but I don't do bbq sauce unless I'm making pork steaks. Some of the newer restaurants are really good, my favorite is grace meat +3. Coffee shops are decent although my favorite is ran & frequented by hipsters but the coffee more than makes up for it. Damn good beer scene (why you posted the worst one I will never know. Good Mexican on Cherokee street(la villasana is the shit) overall can't complain really.

The rumor the profits go up the owners nose. 37.50 for a quesadillas with a fancy meat. And 10.50 for a beer.

The other is the brand name franchises i.e. McDonald's and such. In the province of quebec everything needs to be in french so those that are still around survived the language bullshit or are super rich companies. The number one takeaway from my time living in eastern PA was that inexplicably nobody there knows how to make a pizza that's better than so-so. It's like every pizza joint you go to is essentially sbarros, it's the same mediocre thin crust pizza with nothing remarkable about it. My whole time around Philly and up the whole way towards Allentown I was searching for a place that just made something in a really unique and quirky fashion (without it's "quirkyness" being that it was essentially some frozen pizza being passed off as freshly made pizza) and I maybe only succeeded on two occasions - one with a place that made a decent Sicillian, and one with a place that made a decent Grandma's pie with fresh basil, in a square, thinner crust but rich chunky sauce...

Most other places I've been you can find a pizza place with something unique about it, and I like the quirks, but eastern PA was just store after store of the same pizza over and over and over and over.

Mormon cooking is the stereotype of "White people don't season their food"
Almost all restaurants not run by foreigners literally don't season anything, and the average Mormon thinks ketchup is spicy. Even went to a Mexican restaurant owned and run by a bunch of Mormons, the taco meat wasn't even seasoned, it was just ground meat that was cooked in a pan. The salsa was also cooked, they literally heated up the salsa.
Moving to Utah made me miss the cooking in the south, Mormon cooking is so bland, they don't even know what they're missing.

LA here. We have a lot of good food, but most of it is expensive and everything that isn't requires driving in traffic for ages, paying out the ass for parking, and waiting in an hour long line for a table.
Surprisingly little is open late unless you're in one of the really hip neighborhoods.
Way too many short-lived food trends, we'll suddenly have 50 of the same type of restaurant pop up almost at once and then they're all gone two years later. (Nashville-style hot chicken sandwiches are the current meme.)
Decent BBQ is hard to find and overpriced as fuck when you do.
Indian food is mostly mediocre as hell compared to what I used to get in NorCal
Too much fusion bullshit
Every time you find a good place some LA Times writer will do a story on it a month later and then it gets overcrowded and goes to shit

The only reason the barbecue is so popular here is because we cater to an endless supply of geezers. The hip folks are all over the downtown scene and emerging expansion of the east end. Portland. Restaurants open and close here on a weekly basis, constantly changing depending on what the current fad is. There are a few restaurants have stood the test of time here, but a lot of them get swallowed up in the race to see who can afford their monthly lease payment.

>Vancouver
Crazy good Chinese/Japanese/Thai/Korean/Indian/Asian ethnic options that totally dominate the scene alongside their western fusion half-breed spawn. Try a japadog if you ever visit! Surprisingly poppin' Greek options left over from the mafia days. A smattering of trendy vegan-type places, random immigrant wall-holes, and a few high-quality sit downs. You're basically out of luck if you want more than one good mexican, barbecue, breakfast, or burger place. The bakeries, ice cream shops, and dessert cafes are fucking good if that's your thing. Truck game weak for a city of this size.

Overall not really worth visiting for the food alone, but if you're here you won't have a bad time. Especially if you can use chopsticks.

Maybe if you're the sort of person who follows crowds. Lots of businesses here (including bars and clubs along with restaurants) prey on the student and immigrant populations by providing sub-par services for exorbitant rates. I'm not really in a position to change any of that shit, but the large-scale problems facing Vancouver don't make my dinner taste any worse. As you alluded, there's a definite class of "haves" separate from the "have-nots" in this city, and if you throw your lot in with the "have-nots" then you're obviously in for a bad time. Instead of being stubborn, just figure out where the "haves" are eating. The essence of intelligence is adaptation anon

Rural/suburban Wisconsin.

Outside of chains, there are four types of restaurants: bars that have one or two fryers and a pizza oven, fancy banquet halls that also have bars, crappy, generic Mexican restaurants, many of which have bars or tequila lounges, and Chinese/pizza buffets. The food at most restaurants is general American cuisine (burgers, pizza, fries, etc...), with a few regional favorites like bratwurst and cheese curds. Most of it is pretty good overall.

The big draw though is year round Friday Fish Frys, with basically any sort of fish or shrimp imaginable beer battered and fried. Popular favorites include perch, walleye, cod, bluegill, catfish, and smelt (basically deep fried minnows). Fish fry platters are generally served with coleslaw, rye bread, and a choice of potato (french fries, American potato salad, German potato salad, maybe even mashed potatoes or sweet potato fries). Always pure kino.

Be that as it may, I actually agree with the sentiment that this city and its key, interrelated problems of homelessness, foreign money, and opiate trafficking, have grown worse with time. My entire point is in correspondence with this guy's (>>14444844), but my take on it is that these problems create a situation where some fairly nice things are available if you know where to look, whereas his and the predominant take (in this thread at any rate) is that these problems and the environment they create are not worth the few, generally inaccessible benefits that they entail
