>Anon I'm making brownies but we don't have vegetable oil so I'm going to the grocery store
But we have olive oil? That's practically the same thing bu-
>But olive oil is gross!
But it's not as gross as vegetable oil, don't you know where it comes fr-
>Olive oil is still gross!
>>I take the bottle of olive oil, put some on my finger, and taste it
And this hardly tastes stronger than water...
>I don't care if it tastes like water, I'm still getting vegetable oil because Duncan Hines says so!!!!1
Why is society like this, anons?

if your olive oil tastes like water you're buying the wrong brand. and yes baking sweets with olive oil gives them an offputting flavor

>> No.14437626

>>14437608
I didn't say it taste's like water but that it's not that much stronger. And isn't vegetable oil about the same strength? I'm talking about canola oil vs extra virgin olive oil.

>> No.14437638

>>14437626
extra virgin should have a fairly strong, unique taste.
also, melted butter for the baking win

Well I don't know if butter will work with the dunken hines shit. They don't mention butter at all; they just say "vegetable oil" in the ingredients list and say "oil" in the instructions.

Can confirm, trying to make mayo with olive oil instead of a more neutral oil like avocado will end up making your mayo taste really earthy/fruity in a not so pleasant way

If you follow the respy exactly, it's not your fault if it's bad.
If you go off menu, it's all on you.

dude you can
it's just boxed brownies
if anything they'll come out butter
haha get it
seriously just replace oil with butter, I've never done a boxed mix with oil and water, always replace with milk and butter
stupid

They couldn't be more opposite. Canola is a neutral oil. Extra virgin olive oil has a lot of flavor and can make things taste metallic. Light olive might be okay for baking but I still wouldn't use it.

It's a boxed brownie mix you retard. Replacing vegetable oil with a tiny bit of olive oil, or butter, or something similar on hand for the moment isn't going "off menu" to the point where everything will be fucked.
Just fucking shoot yourself, I cannot stand the idea of stupidity like yourself doing anything in a kitchen. How do you not stab yourself with your knives?

They are right. You’ll taste the EVOO flavor in baked goods. It’s a bitter flavor. Just go to the store and buy some butter or neutral oil you lazy insufferable prick.

Oil in baked goods is for keeping it moist, it's nothing to do with flavor.

Brownies taste the same with olive oil.

your mom is right you cant use olive oil in baked goods like chocolate brownies.

My father in law is the same way. Made him a container of pan seared chicken that he threw away once he found out I cooked it in olive oil because “olive oil gives food a bad taste”. Okay just keep eating your dry boiled chicken you boomer fuck

Oh, I concur.
Just explaining the "why" behind the "OMG I DOESNT HAS - MUST TO STORE" that you get from people who can follow a respy but not actually cook.

Well oil makes sense if baking a quick moist cake with buttermilk. I'd rather save the butter for stuff such as cookies, or brownies.

Even so, using clarified butter would be knocking out two birds with one stone.
