Whilst I can certainly say I've worked with some entitled, lazy or downright arrogant bartenders (think they're the shit because girls will give them attention and fuck for free drinks) to simply tar us all with the same brush is rather silly isnt it.

Bartenders can be very rude. The night I turned 21, my brother and one of his friends took me out to a bar so I could get a few beers at midnight. It's funny, because I always pay by card and don't carry cash. I tip at the end of the night when I get my bill, but some bartenders are so stupid that they'll start to ignore me because I'm not tipping them in cash $1 each drink. Bartending was such an easy gig. Started in college at college bars which sucked and eventually landed a Th/Fri/Sat gig at a four seasons which led to side catering gigs. Catering is cake, there is no rush, guaranteed payment (couple hundred to a grand or more for a 10 to 12 hours of work) and tipping isn’t mandatory, but you can easily pocket a couple hundred bucks depending on the size of the event. The job at the four seasons was tits. Make some cocktails for the restaurant and bs with people at the bar. Lonely business men were absolute sweet spot. Listen to them bitch about whatever, get them drunk and they usually tipped very well. This being said, yes, most bartenders are entitled little bitches looking for a quick buck for little work.

I would say that half of the time, I would agree with you. Bartender behavior runs the gamut from utterly no eye contact to utter one-on-one attention and impeccable etiquette or knowledge.
I think part of the issue is vying for the best tips based on monied or good looking or "scene" appearances, but not entirely. It, has to do with the fact they aren't an owner representing the customer is always right fostering of repeat business most of the time. Fact is they are like drug dealers that just got a little bit of power, as they are the gate keeper in a vice or sinful need. They are someone utterly immersed in this drinking culture. Keep in mind that there are classy people, and those who simply are not. They didn't grow up with servants, nor travel, or give a shit about other people or their businesses.
