Okay first thing, exercise >>>> diet. Literally nothing (nothing) will happen if you don't get daily exercise.

As for diet, the only rule you need is CICO.
Junk food is simple carbs, which will give you a quick burst of energy but then make you crash later.
Fats like peanut butter and almonds have a lot of calories, but those calories are used more effectively by your body, you have more energy and feel fuller longer so you end up eating less calories overall.
Fresh fruit and whole grain carbs like brown rice and wheat bread have fiber so despite being simple carbs they release their energy more slowly, and give you more instant energy than fats but it lasts longer and you don't crash later.
If you don't eat meat you are probably not getting enough protein.

Overall, a balanced diet with a variety of foods will leave you feeling and looking better within a week, but the weight loss process is slow and best done at a steady pace.

They're dancing around the issue.
You don't want to restrict your diet and you don't want to exercise. Find some mix of diet and exercise that maximizes results, but minimizes misery. Which is obviously specific to the person.
I've found that no changes to diet / simple change like sugar free soft drink and 15 mins of running 3 times a week to be quite effective.
I have found portion control to be wholly ineffective. Too little turns you into an irritable prick and too much makes you sick.

I take the "from scratch only" approach plus organic and whatever other labeling noting quality and pesticide and additive free stuff. From scratch meaning taking basic, unprocessed or mostly unprocessed foods (ie, flour is processed from wheat but still a basic ingredient, same for things like sugar and butter) and processing them myself to create meals, snacks, drinks, and sweets. I don't buy any "snack food", and if I make some I only make an amount meant for one snack (such as crisping up peeled potato skins in the oven on a day I'm going to cook potatoes). It's amazing how much less desire you have to eat sweets when you have to spend time making them as well. And since I used to like to drink alcohol a lot and now like kombucha and flavored club soda but don't want to pay for it, I use scraps to make kvass and ginger bug sodas. The have a nice fermented taste with slight carbonation and are literally free since it's made from bread I would have turned into bread crumbs or fruit I would have composted. I also am conscious of making meals varied, balanced, nutritious, and filling. I've lost a lot of weight without trying to diet. I haven't had to consciously cut back on food since it turns out that eating properly prepared, high quality, nutritious food signals you stop eat when you've had enough and stay full much longer. I don't always achieve this all perfectly, but I mostly stick to it. It makes going out from time to time enjoyable and guilt-free.

Finally, someone who doesn't peddle the reddit tier "just eat less, lol" meme. Yes, eating less will cause you to lose weight, but it is the most miserable way to do so. Some people will literally have to eat like a single apple in order to lose weight with the "just eat less" meme.

Exercise boosts your metabolism, takes up time that would otherwise be spent thinking of food, boosts your mood so you do not feel the need to eat as much, and regulates your food consumption as you will likely avoid foods that will make you feel shit while you exercise. if you want to be realistic about losing weight then exercise is 100% a requirement.

I can't say what works for you, but this works for me. These are my rules:

1. Never order take out/no restaurants period. Designed for high calorie/carb/sugar/salt/fat intake
2. Always cook your own food. You know what goes in, and can portion properly.
3. When buying anything read nutritional facts. Sodium 800 per serving, serving size 9? Jesus fuck.
4. Do the same for calories, carbs, saturated fat, and sugar.
5. Eliminate all bread, pasta and rice. No chips, and no candy obviously. No soda.
6. Heavy on produce, heavy on lean protein. Tuna/Salmon are my go-to's.
6a. Low on fruits, with the exception of avocado and (debated) tomato.
7. Limit condiments or seek out keto ones. Again, rule 3 per serving.
8. No sausage, cold cuts, hot dogs or any fried meat. Dogshit for you.
9. Up your water intake. Make ginger tea or something. Green tea.
10. Finally, EXERCISE DAILY. Make 10k a day a mantra and add strength training accordingly.
10a. Supplements--multi, fish oil, zinc, vitamin D...cool cayenne maybe? Play around with it.

Whatever you crave...try to walk past it. Put in the right work.
Search low calorie foods, low carb foods, and low fat foods. Take notes.
With this, you'll see change. I did. Godspeed, anons.

Since corona I stopped eatig takeout and icecream I had atleast once a week. And no frozen stuff. I exercise every other day and only eat after work... so I never tought it would make a big difference.

Bur guess what, I never dropped weight this quickly is such a short time. And I dont even eat any classic "healthy" shit... most of the time I eat a big pot of pasta with sauce / some meat and olive oil pured over it. Also gobbling down plain white chocolate oce in a while.

So I guess just not pigging out anymore is all it takes for me to loose weight.

No. There is a standard amount of calories that your body uses a day. It varies depending on your height and activity level. For example a 6' tall male who sits all day MAY naturally use 2000kcal per day. There are places online that can give you an estimate of how many calories you use per day, but you need to figure it out for your own body because everyone is a little different. (1/2)

>> No.14348027

>>14348010
The 2000 per day value is also a rounded down amount from a general guesstimate of 2350 as average population-wise.

>> No.14348039

>>14347707
>>14348010
Now the reason you are overweight is because you are eating more calories than your body uses and your body is smart and saves the extra calories in the most inefficient unattractive way: fat. The key is to find out how many calories you need to keep your current weight. Take 500kcal of that away per day and you will lose 1lb per week. This is because it takes 3500kcal to make a lb of fat. What you are trying to do is give your body what it needs to maintain. When you exercise your uses more calories. Therefore if you exercise you will need more calories to maintain your weight and can reach your goal of feeding yourself 500 less kcal easier. (2/2)
Does this make sense now?

>> No.14348086

>>14348039
Note on exercise that I am not telling you to exercise for 3500kcal a day. First that would be very difficult. It is estimated that the average body will burn 100kcal per mile of running. I can barely run a mile. What you are doing with exercise is adding the calorie loss to your diet plan. Say for example I found out that I need to eat 2345kcal to maintain my weight. If I run 2 miles a day that I can add 200kcal to my caloric intake in order to maintain. Suddenly I need 2545kcal to maintain! Now say I want to lose weight. Now I can eat 2045kcal a day and lose weight. If I didn't run I would need to make sure I don't eat any more than 1845kcal per day. I hope this makes sense. I imagine that someone else will be able to correct any mistakes I made

I'm assuming you either don't have (good) insurance and haven't gone to a primary care doctor for a while.
So assuming that's true, your best bet is go directly to a lab and get your bloodwork done. I'm not sure if all labs have the same kind of tests, so you'll have to look up what they offer.
There's usually 2-3 tests you can take that'll cover pretty much everything.
You'll have to talk to somebody who knows what they're looking at to tell you what your results are. Because tests don't come back saying what is elevated and what's deficient. It just gives you the numbers.

But if you do have insurance that covers doctors visits, then just schedule an appointment with a primary care doctor. The first time you meet with one, they'll usually suggest getting your bloodwork done.

running is hard on joints and is intense exercise, which burns lots of calories in a short time, causing the body to break down muscle tissue in a 'desperate' strategy to lower the calorie burn rate. That is why long distance runners are emaciated looking. So running destroys joints and breaks down muscles so this means your metabolism will not be burning many calories at rest, so once you stop running you will gain lots of weight. Runners also think they can eat anything they want because they run, so they eat a lot of junk. Running often induces heart attacks so this combination of junk food and running kills many people every year. Exercise biking is low impact and also much safer that biking on the road with cars whizzing by all the time.
