I used to think Gordon Ramsay was kind of a jackass, but then I found out that he's actually a pretty normal and nice guy in the British shows and that the American version of his shows would overedit things to make him look like a jackass. And he seems to know what he's talking about when it comes to cooking.

I used to think America was kind of a jackass, but then I found out that it's actually a pretty normal and nice in person and that the European version of it's culture would overedit things to make it look like a jackass. And they seem to know what they're talking about when it comes to cooking.

Without the jackass persona Hell's Kitchen would have been cancelled by the middle of Season 1.

Hell's Kitchen should have been canceled so he could go back to making his UK shows.

He also exaggerated and overacted too though to make things more dramatic, it wasn't just the editing.

He does seem like a good chef for the most part though. Except maybe with his burgers and pad thai. But a lot of people who watch these kind of cooking shows don't actually have much interest in food and cooking, they just like the drama.

I started with the UK version of the show and I attempted to watch one episode of the US version. It was basically unwatchable and not enjoyable at all. It's so fucking exaggerated and cheesy. I'm saying this as a burger.

No he isn't. He's still a shit, just less obnoxious than in the US version. They didn't get the idea to make him an arsehole from nowhere. They took his existing reputation and ramped it up.

But being an arsehole in the UK means you're still nicer than the nicest American.

Not him but the format of the show was changed for US audiences for some reason. The UK version presents itself nearly as if it was a documentary about X restaurant with a clear plan to fix said business. The US version is basically Storage Wars X4 with a bunch of nonsensical theatrics and obnoxious music/interviews for the sake of ratings.

It was changed because a cooking show in America not on the Food Network has to be about drama. His shows airing on the Food Network are pretty tame because they are about the food

There was still drama in the UK version of the show but it appeared like it was actually happening instead of being scripted. The US version is extremely jarring.

It's all scripted Anon

>> No.14321672

That is true, but it seems so fake and over exaggerated when you watch the US version. It's like some restaurant owner agreed to put on an obnoxious show fully knowing that the business would fail as long as said owner was paid handsomely by the network. The owners in the UK appeared as if they wanted their businesses to flourish despite the media attention.

This. Even if they're both scripted, there's a difference between being scripted in an obviously fake way, like the US version is, and being scripted in a way that at least feels natural.
