Do you guys have a designated bacon pan? After you cook bacon, you just leave the grease in there for several days until you cook more? Apparently I have a friend that does this and it seems pretty disgusting. Although I heard it 'seasons' the pan and can improve the quality of the strips but i'm on the fence about that.

DESIGNATED BACON PAN? DON'T MIND IF I DO

>> No.14301363

No I collect the fat in a small bowl on the side that I always throw out because I never have any use for bacon fat but don't want to pour it down the drain

God I fucking hate bacon. Bacon and all those who like it are Reddit.

>> No.14301490

I like bacon but I don't eat it often enough to bother designating any particular pan to bacon duty.

Lard can go rancid and it attracts ants and shit.
Keep it in an airtight container.
It is good for the pan though.

I just put it in the oven on enough parchment paper to cover a baking sheet. I do save the grease but I never leave it to sit for several days. I just pour it in a jar.

I don't eat bacon often.
I'll have it occasionally on a burger.
I love it, but I'm 34 years old now and trying to think about my health

no. here in Australia it's hot enough that the grease stays liquid.

Your friend is just lazy. He doesn't want to pour it out hot into like a coffee can to throw away later, doesn't want to do it cold or even at all until he needs that pan again. There are microbes in the air, you don't leave things open uncovered and out at room temperature, esp filled with bits of meat. He doesn't spend much money on paper towels, etc.
You should probably never eat at his house. It's an example of extreme ignorance.

Much of the time, unless I know I need the fat for a recipe (potato salad, potato pancakes, cornbread), I don't cook it on the stovetop. I microwave bacon on a stack of paper towels (3-4), and another 2 on top. Right into the trash within 5 minutes of cooling. You can layer on a 2nd layer of bacon too if you need up to 10 slices.
Wasteful of paper, for sure, but no mess, nor watching it, and best of all, no spitting grease everywhere in my oven, or stovetop, since bacon is filled with packing liquid nowadays, it's intolerable.
