Get the redbreast tri pack if it's at a liquor store nearby. You can try the 12, 15, and lustau. If you like that you'll like probably all Irish whiskey. Green Spot is great too, but it's younger and a little more expensive than RB 12. Then there's also all the different versions of Powers. All very good but kinda similar overall

Personally I'd recommend you try any single bourbon cask of Hazelburn as they're not confectionery sweet nor peated but has some briney and salty qualities and a good softer mouthfeel from the triple distillation and tighter spirit cuts then say Longrow.

Wolcott is probably the nicest all-around, and Devil's River cask strength is good value for the money if you like high-proof. Two stars is saccharine sweet if you're into that kind of thing, and Colonel Lee is surprisingly decent for a bottom-shelfer

STRONGs are your cheapest option. like a malt liquor in the US, you can get a lot of volume, a lot of alcohol content, and a little price. pretty much every gaijin scum i encountered like the STRONGS. the jack daniels brand version is honestly better, i think they sell them in the states now, i swear it's actual coca-cola in it.

where i worked they have/had an iconic suntory display in their "time square". if you're literally importing suntory STRONGs to your country you have a problem my friend. just go to japan and actually understand what spilling your "lemon strong" on the subway at 6 AM means. if you want the same experience get a bottle of kamthachaka and just pour some sprite in it. it's not a special drink. at. all.

I got hammered on Ardbeg 10YO last night and said some things I regret to my gf on Discord.
Luckily my low carb high fibre diet seems to be working and despite my heavy drinking I dropped this solid beauty this morning.

I've had some tasty añejos and had been under the impression that blanco was for mixing and shots, reposado was for mixing and drinking, and añejo was best served neat, since it was to high quality to use as a mixer. With whiskeys, it's pretty much across the board that more aging is better, but you're not the first person I've heard say that a reposado is better than an añejo and I'm interested in understanding why that seems to be a widely held opinion.

60-70% of what you enjoy in Scotch comes from the barrel, that's the harsh truth.
If the raw distillate is quality and already aromatic and flavorful, there's not much need for too much wood or Sherry seasoning, a brief ageing period in Barrique or ex-Bourbon casks will suffice. That's why you can drink quality Kirschwasser or Tequila straight from the still while white whisky just tastes like malty vodka. Not an iron rule just a general guideline.

It's basically this. Whatever has a strong flavour like (fruit) brandies don't need barrel ageing and often lose their actuall taste over the years. Grain spirits are much more tasteless so they need barrel ageing. Unaged grain spirits like korn or vodka are made for alcoholics.
