It's literally r*ddit: the drink. If you don't live anywhere near Chicago you wont be able to find it, and it's not worth getting shipped. It's basically a joke that people play on their friends when they're visiting, and ironically used in cocktails at "hipster" bars run by people who have never seen salt water. The guy who posted the Malort was just repeating the re*dit meme; "haha, I'm going to pretend this stuff is good! (those in the know will get it!)". It's just really bitter wormwood/grapefruit liquer with just those two notes. It's not bad because it's bitter, it's bad because it's virtually nothing but bitter without any flavor or depth.
