What does cook think of chipotle?

>> No.14232939

For 8 dollars flat it's relatively clean food acceptable tasting food and a lot of calories.

I like how they had the balls like years ago to make a no GMO pledge. Nothing makes leftist control freak bugmen seethe more that trashing GMOs

I'm the biggest dickhead when I go to chipotle. I always ask for rice, then fajita vegetables (making it sound as if I want just fajita vegetables, so they give me a lot) and then I slip in "oh yeah and chicken please" then after they put the chicken on, I ask for even more fajita vegetables, they usually put on a skimpy trifling amount extra so I clear my throat and raise my voice a little "CAN YOU PLEASE PUT MORE FAJITA VEGETABLES ON???". The workers sometimes look a little pissed but I don't care. I might even ask a third time if they happen to have red peppers instead of green peppers (a rarity, a delicacy).

Really good food for a chain. Whoever trained these fucking TARDS to roll a burrito should be fucking executed. I tried to explain to one of the local idiots who works there how to double wrap my gigantic exploding burrito and the dumbfuck wrapped it the same way the first later was wrapped instead of using the center of the 2nd tortilla to cover the tear in the first tortilla. And they tend to make a giant ball instead of a cylindrical burrito. Sneed.

I enjoy it, but there are some problems:

I remember closer to 2008ish I would go into a Chipotle and not even get salsa, and the steak would be medium with pink color and full flavor, just a bit of spice. Now its overcooked bullshit that they over salt to make up for the lack of flavor.

Id like more options for toppings. Cilantro, Diced Onions, jalepenos, etc

More than 3 salsas would be nice instead of just:
-Raw Diced Tomato
-Bland green water / Soggy Burrito
-Burning Asshole (Best one of the three)

BY FAR THE WORST PART OF CHIPOTLE THOUGH, AND WHY I RARELY GO ANYMORE:
-The wait in line-
The queers at corporate decided to do online ordering, which is fine, but at the same time are not forking over money for more staff. So I am passing a chipotle, I see a short line, I think "Hey this should be quick and easy for dinner / lunch" and all of the sudden its a half hour line wait even though its just me and a couple others in line. I was waiting in line one time and watched some dude come in, see the line, then step outside, place his order on phone, and he left with his food before I did.
The system forces you to plan ahead if you want Chipotle and work with their system. It punishes you for branching out and spontaneously deciding to get Chipotle at the spur of the moment.

I remember trying chipotle for the first time in 2010 and it was amazing. I still eat it now but it's nowhere near as good as it used to be.

Once a chain gets large enough it becomes impossible to enforce meaningful quality control without having your product become the lowest common denominator (ex. McDonald's).

>steak would be medium with pink color and full flavor, just a bit of spice. Now its overcooked bullshit that they over salt
I give up. There's never been a chipotle I could visit that I could stomach the chicken or the steak. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyy overseasoned, literally crusted with salty fajita spices or some shit that wouldn't be sprinkled on meat in Mexico, no way. Also, it will be overchopped to dust sized pieces. No thanks.
Carnitas or nothing else.
But, my friend, if your burrito is soggy, you're probably pulling off the foil wrapper too fast, just peel it down as you eat. They'll actually put it on the side too and bowl up your order, if you want to assemble yourself right before eating it.

I hardly go since their food poisonings. But, when I am out of town? It's nice and fast to grab some beers, guac and lime-salted chips for your hotel room snack.

>> No.14233524

Overpriced garbage. Their meat portions are abysmal. You barely get 2oz if the wagie doesn't know what he's doing. They also started reheating leftovers so you can't go before noon or you get stale rice. Everything just tastes bland and over salted The line is a fucking joke now. Takes twenty minutes to serve five people

2010-2012 chipotle was completely different. I used to go almost everyday for lunch back then. Last time I went it was so bad I threw it away and went to chickfila

>> No.14233527

>>14233497
The food poisoning was literally at two different stores, one in Ohio and one in Massachusetts a couple years ago.

There are over 2.5k chipotle locations serving hundreds of meals per day every day. If you are seriously scared of getting food poisoning from them you have a maladapted perception of risk. If you think you're gonna get sick from them, go out and buy a lottery ticket too because you have the same chances of winning that as getting sick from them.

That's a bold claim. A burrito is 8 dollars in my area, that is about the cheapest it gets unless you go to to the poor immigrant area of the city, and then you might get one for $7 and the store will be filthy.

Too funny. I will do the same timing trick when I get down to the 4 salsas.
I want them all, but they would never do that, so my game is "I'll have half n half of corn salsa and mild please" and if they kind of drop it in the center only, I'll get more added with "make sure you put some at the end there for the first bite, thank you" and now you have full amounts of both.
They're chomping at the bit now to wrap that foil and be done with you and hand it off, but you stop the 2nd person right there and get them busy making guac.
Then, to the burrito person, you stop them and then act ambivalent or dubious about hotness level on their medium salsa, and ask for just a bit of the medium salsa too, not sure if too hot, am I? Then, when it's all packaged up "oh, can I have a little container of the very hot sauce?" on the side, not a whole side, just a small amount please. You can also act like you're splitting it in half and need it for the 2nd person, etc. Charge me, nah. I usually do get all 4 but you don't introduce what you want until they do the full portion of fajita peppers like you said.
I might put just a smidge on a plain bite, but really want the hot sauce for my guac and chips to be kicked up. You can also get lime wedges on the side, not the lemons over by the ice tea.

>who insist chipotle inst authentic
Probably people who like to go to mexican authenticity aren't ordering burritos stuffed to the gills, and vice versa for Chipotle. I wouldn't really compare the two at all. Two different moods. I'm getting tacos when I want authenticity! And, those tacos better be soft and grilled fresh corn tortillas, and steak cooked to order or pastor or some weird offal meat or sausage or something other than a burrito. If it's an unauthentic *rolls eyes* food truck, I'm going to it for the reason of some fun fusion, like a ssam taco with korean bulgogi sprinkled with cheesy elotes or an argentinean chimmichurri sauce on chicken or skirt steak, and some mango on top. Surprise me with with the variation on the mexican theme. I actually think of Chipotle more about the salsas in there, kind of a salad mood for me, plus all that guacamole. If I went to a sit down mexican restaurant, I'm looking for goodies I miss from travel, or wouldn't be making at home myself. I'm scouring the menu for a thick huarache with some tangy nopales, an tortilla azteca or pozole soup, a good margarita or tequila, really freshly fried chips, asking the kitchen for a different salsa, like borracha or some green one not dropped on the table. I'm trying out their mole to see if it ranks up there with the best. What kind of aqua fresca are they making today? What can I take home from the bakery? I'm gettting chilaquiles and molletes, good chocolate, coffee or atole in the morning.
So, all of the above is mexican but is it all comparable? Nah. The authentic term just doesn't apply on the spectrum of traditional and tex-mex and american white meat chicken and monterrey jack cheese kind of spectrum. Let your poor mexican friends alone. They know that a tortilla just layed on a comal, flipped, then dipped in the rendered fat on the griddle is the best kind. Lime fixes everything.

Not that anon, but I lived in south Texas for 15 years and grew up with my stepdad's family who are 100% Mexican. I grew up eating actual home made Mexican food. Now I've lived in Kentucky for 15 years, and there are a surprising amount of southern Texans, Cali's, and New Mexicans here, and when we talk to eachother about "authentic" Mexican restaurants, we use the word to mean restaurants that aren't absolute dog shit slop served to common retards that think they're boiled chicken wrapped in a tasteless tortilla and smothered in fake cheese is Mexican food. Y'all have grown up eating this flavorless boiled slop and grown accustomed to calling it Mexican food. But the reality is that putting plain ass rice and beans next to a previously frozen tortilla isn't Mexican food. When people who aren't 300lb+ man children talk about "authentic" Mexican food, we are referring to food that's cooked with cummino, coriander, chilli, and other spices to recreate an "authentic" plater of actual food; Not pre-canned bullshit that you force down your gullet to expand your ever growing ass.
