Are these japanese grilling pans and racks worth buying?
A asian grocer not far from me is selling them fairly cheaply.

Unless you have a vessel to burn charcoal in, they aren't worth a fuck. These are meant to be used over burning charcoal.

they're pretty specifically for cooking thin pieces of food quickly in an eat-as-you-cook style meal. usually people sit at a table with a little butane stove in the middle with the pan on top putting their small pieces of meat on it for 30 seconds then eating directly

You need the portable stove the circular ones fit over. Fill the bottom ring with water to catch the grease

What about using them on a regular gas stove?

>> No.14123474

>>14123367
I mean, you technically could but at that point why not just use a pan?
The entire point of these is to sit around them with friends and family and have everyone continuously throw small portions on there while having a good time.

I use a solid pan. I want the fat from the meat to stay so the vegetables cook better.

It's japanese, what do you think if can?
It's useless.
Just look at that pathetic "as seen on TV" box.

It's always cool to go to Korean joints with a qt Korean girlfriend, she'll not only know how to order but can talk up the people working there so we get the best stuff.

Can those be used indoors or is that unsafe because of fumes?

>> No.14124168

>>14124129
technically unsafe. there are some charcoal brands that claim they are smokeless that I've seen used in japan. In terms of portable fire inside, I've only seen butane stoves that have whatever government certification that says it's ok indoors

>> No.14124178

>>14124129
Not really. I mean there are ways of using them indoors, but generally it would be unsafe to do so.
