Worked at a grocery store that had a prepared foods department. This one guy was always getting prepared food for lunch which you paid for based on the weight. His friend would put only a little bit on the scale so he only had to pay a couple dollars. One day he had to do a long shift and didn't get to have lunch, so the next day the manager told him to tell HR that he did take lunch. Instead he went to HR and told them the manager was coercing him to take a lunch. The next day the cameras caught him doing his thing, he and his friend got fired.

Made an emergency dentist appointment that was in the middle of my shift but there's always two people working so it's okay my coworker would just be alone for like half an hour. My boss says she'll come take over for me anyway because coworker is new and isn't to be trusted alone yet.

Fifteen minutes before my appointment when my coworker was supposed to start her shift, she didn't show up. Same time my boss was supposed to be there to cover for me, she didn't show up. I'm panicking because I've been crying in pain all my shift so far and can't close the restaurant alone in this pain. I turn off the oven, lock up the restaurant and put a "be back soon" sign on the door, and go to the dentist.

I worked in a nightclub for years, managing the bussing/barback department, doing pretty well for myself. Bartenders/bottle-service/promoters would be drinking on the job and doing coke constantly while making an absolute killing each night. Sometimes they'd pass out on the job, forget to tip their support, etc. My guys would have to come in early, and leave late, while being arms deep in vomit, broken glass and chemicals while making a pittance in comparison. I know it's the nature of the job but it's a fucking shame when someone's drug addled 19 y/o bartender is making x4 the tips for a fraction of the work. They staff retention rate was horrible and we were chewing through new hires.

I started rabble rousing, encouraging the guys to speak to managers about better pay, more accountability for other departments, and not doing the business any favors that weren't in your job description. Spoke with the state, they noticed that the benefits were worth about 40% of my actual income which seemed strange. They recommended I contact my former employer about that. Had one coworker at our bakery who kept making excuses and stuff to get out of doing work. But when he did work he was actually good at his job and we have a lot of trouble getting people to fill his position so he kept on working there. We had laid him off once but within a week another employee had a psychotic break and quit so we got stuck rehiring him (since we said it was a payroll issue he was laid off and legal shit).

But then out of nowhere he just no showed for like almost two weeks with no contact. Phone was off and went straight to voicemail. Never said a thing. We didn't here from him until he just random showed up in the kitchen asking if he could get an advance on his paycheck as if nothing happened. Got super fucking fired there

One guy I used to work with would turn up late, high, and refuse to wear a apron because it made him look like a girl. One day he went for a 'smoke break' whilst I was the only other person on shift with him and came back over an hour later high af and kept saying how he was a good worker and management just had it out for him. I told the kitchen manager when they were next on shift and he got his ass booted. Fucking retard.

One example of how fucking dumb he was, We had these big ass rice cookers that we would empty into a large metal gastro tub but the diameter of the rice pot was bigger than the width of the tub. He would flip the rice pot on top of the tub so that the larger pot would spill rice out the sides and all over the floor. He would then look at it confused like how the fuck did that happen, I told him to tilt it in and scrape it out so that didnt happen and he said nah that takes too long whilst spending the next half an hour cleaning rice off the fucking floor. He did this, Every, fucking, day, and somehow didnt catch on.

I was working two part time cooking jobs i quit one of them without burning any bridges in case I needed the job back. The money was shit. A few weeks later I find out a local bar&grill needed a cook. Owner hired me on the spot. Found out the kitchen manager was leaving in a month to start his own business. As time went on I realized ths food there is garbage. The clientals average age was about 60. The money was ok, I was getting paid cash and decent tips. Owner asks me to be kitchen manager, but then I would have to quit my other job. Tell the owner no. Continue to work there for a month. During this time, Im constantly asking/showing the owner to change the way they cook. Almost everything was cooked from frozen. Frozen burgers, frozen chicken, frozen fish, frozen ham, frozen corn beef, frozen ground beef for nachos, everything. The only thing that was good in the kitchen was the pico and wing sauces that were made in house. They would fry up a big batch of diced onions and then refridgerate them. If a customer ordered frued onions, we would microwave them. Everything was microwaved, or frozen and thrown on the grill. They had me microwave prime rib. They never seasoned anything. I started showing the owner that we need to season shit, and stop cooking from frozen. Showed you can make fried oniona to order. Showed some simple recipes with the ingredients that we had to help reduce cooking from frozen. The owner said "we dont change because people like it this way." Every time. I started seasoning the food without the owner knowing and customers would tell me it was better than before. We had an employee meeting, and I spoke up about the bullshit that was happening. I had quit when this had happened already but my old manager and doctor both got fired on the spot on the same day for being totally incompetent. Worked in a bar. I'd open up in the morning and usually work during the day alone. Leave when night shift people came in. It started to get really boring as the weeks went on. Very few customers, very few tasks, just standing about. Eventually I started drinking just about every shift. I realised they would soon get wise when doing stock check and orders. So I rotated what spirits I would drink, what beers I would drink. Did this for months and they never found out. A new group of people in the evenings had started working, turns out they were drinking a lot on shift but not being clever about it and the manager within a week or two realised loads of booze was gone, way more than spillage. Checked the CCTV and busted all them, fired. Somehow, doesn't figure me out. Or so I thought. Asks me to her office and basically tells me to have sex with her or I'm fired. At any given point the customer bathroom has shit mysteriously spread on the vertical surfaces of the toilet, shit underneath the rim of the lid, shitty paper towels in the trash even though there's toilet paper, ripped open air freshener and makeup containers in the trash, the mirror is all matte and obscured from people doing bird baths in the sink, the floor is always coated in black grime for some reason, and it reappears shortly after washing. I had a friend in a similar situation. He went to culinary school and kept getting fired from jobs because he's a stubborn alcoholic who likes doing things his own way. Anyway at some point he got a job cooking at some shitty local Italian joint that's been around since probably the 70s and everyone who eats there is geriatric. The recipes were terrible and full of sugar. I'd hang out in the kitchen and drink with him while he closed and he'd let me try his own take on the dishes and compare it to the original recipe and his were much better. So he started changing the 50 year old recipes and making new dishes and got fired because it was different than what the boomers were used to.
