So i have been pretty much daydrinking, everyday, for the last 3 months. Here is what I got hiding under my bed:

>Elephant Gin (0,7l) (Triple-A gin, expensive as heck.)
>Star of maroco Gin, Feine Welt (1L) (this kicks elephant gins ass everyday and it's like 25 euros instead of 50)

>Vat 69 (0,7l) (decent whisky, like 6 euros cheap)
> GlendFiddich IPA (0,75l) (this is liquid ambrosia, but not worth the 50 euro price tag.
>tamnavulin whisky double cask (0,75l) (expensive middle class, i take a bottle of black&white or Vat69 anyday.)
>jack daniels Honey & Tennese fire (4l) (this stuff is addicting, put the honey on ice and its sweet sweet poison, Apple Juice or Cider and cinnamon whisky is deadly since you can hide half a cup of booze in it.)

>Absolute Vodka ('nuf sad)
>Tetos vodka (1l) (much better, weirdly sweet, its five bucks more expensive then A.)
>parliament vodka (russian, like stolichnaya but in cheap and milk filtered) (1l)
>russian standard, (it sucks but it can be mixed with anything sweet) (1l)

>Bacardi 4 years old & Oakheart (1,5l of pure sweet alcohol) ( I looove rum and spiced is just smooth.)
>Botucal (incredibly sugared and aged fairly sweet) (its still 35 bucks).
>Don Papa aged 10 years (fuck is this good, Philipean rum) (0,7l)

Any number of variations on a sour, if you've enough lemons and limes, can always work. Please don't use sour mix. Liqueurs, you've Amaretto, Hazelnut Liqueur, Coffee Liqueur, Irish Cream, Cinnamon Schnapps and Jagermeister (and Hpnotiq, but I'm finnicky on that one). Main boozes, you've a bunch of bourbons, a single bottle of alright rum (Appleton Estate), an alright bottle of tequila (the regular one), an alright bottle of vodka (Tito's), the brandy (Hennessy), a mediocre gin (Bombay Sapphire) and that's about it. Everything else that isn't the wine you might just throw down the drain, it's probably gonna be super bad and full of artificial flavoring.

At that point, just remember that the ratio of 2 oz of spirit, to 1 oz of citric juice (you can use grapefruit juice instead of lemon or lime if you're so inclined) to 1 oz of liqueur or 1/2 oz of syrup, adjusted for tasted. Generally you want to lowball the stuff that's sweet. I like Bourbon+Amaretto+Lemon, and Bourbon+Hazelnut Liqueur+Lemon. The Cinnamon Schnapps and Amaretto, if you split, will pair up nicely with the Appleton Estae if you add a bit of lime. Coffee Liqueur has its uses.

Depends on what you like. Personally:
Apple Brandy > Rum > Whiskey (overall) > Gin > Eau De Vie/Schnapps > Brandy > Aquavit > Vodka > [assorted things I've yet to drink]

For Apple Brandy:
Calvados > Applejack > """Apple""" Brandy

For Rum:
Cachaca > Rhum Agricole > Jamaican Rum > Cuban/Puerto Rican Rum > Demerara Rum > Rhum Traditionnel > Spiced Rum

For Whiskey:
Rye Whiskey > Peaty Scotches > Floral Scotches > Bourbon > Canadian Whiskey > Irish Whisky

For Gin:
Plymouth > Genever > Old Tom > London Dry

For Eau de Vie/Schnapps:
Blackberry > Cherry > Raspberry > Pear

For Brandy:
Good Cognac > Armagnac > Pisco > Assorted Brandies > Grappa > Bad Cognac > Flavored Brandies

Aquavit, Vodka and Assorted Things I've Yet To Drink I haven't really got a ranking on them.

I would suggest adding based on what you like to drink.

However if you wanted to open up your options you could look at adding sweet vermouth, dry vermouth, campari, luxardo maraschino liqueur and some bitters.

I think its better to buy based on what you like to drink though. Chucking together random drinks can work, but it can also be disgusting and a waste of booze. Better off finding a traditional cocktail you like and adjusting it from there.

>> No.14096865

>>14096780
Sweet vermouth, dry vermouth, peychauds bitters, angostura bitters, sugar syrup if you're not going to make your own.
Get a decent rye whiskey, bulliet is good, Rittenhouse is great especially for the price point.
Buy a cocktail shaker, Hawthorne strainer, jigger
At this point you should be well stocked enough to make quite a few classic drinks
Research and start testing simple ones. Even the simple ones you'll initially fuck up, but keep going. Eventually become a master and then recoil in horror when all the people at your function just want to fucking drink bourbon and coke

Its really difficult to keep a bar stocked to please guests.

A lot of cocktails require some fresh element. A lot also require a non-alcohol element such as well. Thats easier to keep, but it takes up space. It just isnt realistic to stay stocked up on such a wide range of those things so that you can please guests on the spot.

Its much easier to decide what cocktails you are going to serve before hand based on knowing what your guests like and stocking up for that. Buy everything you need for the main cocktail you want to serve and then also keep a few mixers in if you know you have guests - a few cans of coke, a few bottles of tonic etc and a lemon/lime to give you lots of options.

Don't buy flavored liquors. You have ingredients to flavor your liquor. I guarantee that having your own vanilla to mash up and throw into rum is 100000% better than the artifiical shit that is in Capt Mo vanilla. Gaahhhh.
For gin you should choose two levels: Segram's for cheap, and Tanquerey for expensive. Buy plain. Add shit to it to make it better.
Bacardi is just fine as a clear rum.
Plain Capt Mo is just fine as a dark rum. You don't need shit else.
Seagram's 7 is fine.
Old No. 7 is fine.
You should have a clear and dark tequila, NOT a flavored tequila. Even bottled mixers are better.

Are any of those liquor companies paying you to promote their mixed-up shit? No, they're not, so don't serve them.

That's the only reason why John Taffer and other bar guys promote that shit: they're getting paid. Pre-mixed shit is always, repeat after me, ALWAYS worse than mixing your own even with the worst WalMart brand mixer. All. Ways.

MD20/20 does not belong in that lineup, and frankly neither does the Barefoot. Boxed and barefoot wines are neat to have, to throw at low-class thots, but don't display that man. That's volume swill.

No bitters
No vermouth

Sweet n Sour Mixer: You know what it is? Half and half by volume white sugar and heated water with lime and lemon juice put in. Make your own, it tastes better and it's virtually free.

Hennesy Kahlua Bailey's actually fine for various guests. Nothing wrong with the Brothers and their cognac and brandy.

Just get shelf plain vodka, Absolute, Stoli, maybe Ketel one for snobs, but not for mixing.

POint is... why didn't you start with the basics? Can you afford the latest meme liquors? You spent money on Cuervo Margaritas but did you blow it all on that instead of saving a Patron for your meathead Guido friends?

Back to basic anon, I like you, thank you for reading my blog.

Homemade margaritas my dude. That shit is so cash and it's a perennial hit. It's so goddamned much better than mixer, it's easy, and everyone likes to have the blender going and gather round the kitchen and stuff.
You mush up some mint for mojitos, you're getting laid. It's that simple, that shit is so good.
If you keep triple sec around, it's pretty cheap for decent stuff, women will love you. It's an easy drink.

Some people make them in pitchers b/c you get muddled mint leaves if you drink the dregs, but I use it by the highball glass b/c that freshly muddled mint is what kicks it. It makes a difference rather than just sitting in a pitcher, you have to hand-make each one. Fresh lime of course.

For $5/bottle more, Flor de Cana is much better.

It's not good. Appleton XO/12 is my standard darm rum these days, though it is admittedly 2.5 times the price of captain morgan. But there are better dark rums out there for less - the level below Appleton 12 for one.

Thank you for being tolerant of preferences, because there is that.

As far as price goes, $5 more than Bacardie is 30% increase in price.
I was judging on price and while I've never had Flor de Cana, I'm sure it tastes at least $5 better than Bacardi.
But Bacardi is excellent $13 clear rum. It is always the same, always available, and people are familiar with it.
His post was about entertaining guests.

>capt mo vs much better spiced rum
AGain, I'm sure you're correct, but again 2.5x the price is a lot, but more importantly
>>14097557
>>capt mo's (some people just have to have capt and coke)
That was another post to be fair, but again for entertainment purposes, Capt Mo is almost required, no, it is required. And it's a good price and while I don't personally drink Capt Mo, you almost have to have it for guests.

>though I have different whisk(e)y preferences I'm sure.
I'm 100% positive your whiskey sense is better than mine, the most expensive single-malts I've had were the old Glendeveron they don't sell anymore and L10. But he's not in the position to be serving higher-end single-malts and bourbons to his guests.

The "I want to get drunk but slowly" men want either glasses of bourbon to babysit or mixed drinks like rum and coke. And yes Captain is an absolute. Its decent and its comfy because everyone knows it.

The "I'm only drinking one drink all night/I'm just gonna hold this and occasionally dump it into the sink to make it look like I'm drinking" men want your most expensive bottle you've been saving for yourself to be opened and wasted. Vanilla-flavored Rum is 'flavored liquor'.

>You have ingredients to flavor your liquor
There are high quality liqueurs that are substantially better than adding fresh fruit to a cocktail.
>For gin you should choose two levels
Yea, the gin and tonic level and the sipping level. Tanquerey is not good enough to be sipping on. I'd suggest you go for something with a local botanical or something barrel aged.
>Bacardi is just fine as a clear rum
You don't need clear rum and vodka
>Plain Capt Mo is just fine as a dark rum
If you're going to be mixing dark rum you probably want something that goes better with coke ala Rebellion Bay. You may also want a nicer sipping rum.
>You should have a clear and dark tequila
You don't need any tequila, but if it's your jam get one you like to sip on.
>Just get shelf plain vodka
And a water filter

If your collection is just for you to drink you should seriously try to shrink it down. You want just enough options to keep from getting bored, and then change it up regularly so you can keep it fresh and keep experimenting. Also you want to be buying regularly, not in a lump sum when 20 bottles hit zero, forcing you to buy off sale.
If your collection is for entertaining guests seriously cut down on spirits. 5 dark and 5 light spirits is false versatility in the face of someone who drinks beer or wine. It'd be like throwing out that whole collection and replacing it with an old and new world Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Sparkling White, Rose and expecting everyone who comes over to be happy.

Whenever a subject comes up with maturity goalposts for young men, you get a bunch of responses like this which have nothing to do with the original question and everything to do with someone eager to show they've gained some knowledge of the subject.

No one cares what phase of discovery you're in, this post isn't about you.

Unlike other responders to my posts, you didn't add anything to the conversation.

I am a perennial g&t drinker and we know what you said and contradicted yourself with:
>gin because it has the weakest correlation between price and quality of any beverage

Seagram's is fine, Tanqueray is popular for a reason. It is fantastic straight or mixed.
To repeat for those whose balls are still descending from their lower abdomens: OP is having guests over, so Tanqueray is absolutely required. You pretty much have to have No. 7, Tanqueray, Capt Mo, Bacardi, and Cuervo among your collection.

Adults who have decades of party experience know this.

Oh, it's fine to have meme-drinks in your collection, that is not what this thread is about.

Now back to your entry-level office job, Trevor, where you can prove to other 24 year olds how mature you are by your discriminating taste in beverages.

Thank god this is not a beer thread, when I would have to explain why Busch Light is one of the finest beers made on the planet and why eventually you too will begin to settle on a mass-produced pilsner or lager as your staple, instead of your latest bullshit stout.

Thanks for being here, I felt like age-mogging on a smooth-faced faggot this morning and here you showed up. No, that beard doesn't hide the fact you're practically a girl.

You're right, it's pretty rare, although gin is gaining some traction after years of pushing. It is literally industrial ethanol flavored with berries, and that's how it started in Industrial England. So when craft beer, vineyards, and craft liquors started saturating the market, Gin is the obvious entrepreneur's choice.
So there's been a push on gin, and most of it is forgettable. This is because gin is quite literally a manufactured taste and the best ones define the market. So meme gins don't gain traction.
People are beginning to sip gin and some always have, it's skipped a couple generations, but it's all irrelevant because what this >>14104602 skink didn't understand is that OP is trying to flesh out a guest collection and in that case you are 100% correct: literally no one sips gin and if they do, they had better be used to sipping Tanqueray or they can gtfo. A gin drinker that would turn their nose up at Tanqueray is someone to avoid.

Yes, its not silky smooth as black label but has more taste and for 5 bux more its a good bargain I think since its all malt whiskies.

So you're saying that's a $42 bottle of whiskey? I thought it was like $200 or is that blue lable?

I happen to love Johnny Walker Black and all of the single-malt hipsters that try to down it are just displaying what insufferable idiots they are. Hitchens' defense of JWB is that b/c it's blended, it's always the same, always reliable, and always available. He is right and I've used the same argument to defend my love of Busch Light.

it's 50, in my area black label has a price hike from 45-55 depending on the liquor store and its been that way since I moved here 2 years ago. not sure why, is it nationwide this high?

Yeah, it' s Blue I'm thinking of, $214/5th state minimum here.

Green is $53/5th
Black is $35.70/5th

I might have to try green label I thought it was out of my league. Is it $18 better than black?

its been so long since I've had black because of the price hike but I think its worth a try at the very least if you enjoy black label. 15 year old blend of single malts for 50 is pretty good bargain i think.

I need to make more money so that I can drink better. Maybe next month I'll get JWG and see. That $45 L10 is calling my name but I think I'll resist the single-malt meme a bit more.

Do you drink it neat?
I think blended should go on the rocks so it broadens out the flavors. I heard that at a bar once and it's true. Something else the online single-malt snobs look down on: the ice should melt, to provide varying dilutions through the life of the glass.
I think what happens is people are repulsed while acquiring the scotch taste, especially islays, and they think it should be that hard all the way through.
The only right way to drink whiskey is the way you like it. I like mine with the big home-sized ice cubes, not the little ones and not the big goofy ball. Scotsmen used to actually take cold rocks out of the stream with dripping water to cool their whiskey. Dilution is part of the point of it.

Just because there's a poor correlation between price and quality doesn't mean quality doesn't exist. It just means you'll have to honestly seek it out instead of just throwing money at the problem.

Little bit of grape skin on the nose, beeswax honey and mint, sawdust. Lots of honey on the first sip, some oak/ hickory forest floor. More sawdust and beeswax on the nose. Good oak second sip, heat on the outside of my tongue. Lingering clover. Big round finish on the last take, herbaceous on the backside, bit of grappa hit on the lead. Beery clover and mint. Like i said, an odd one. Could have sworn I picked up hops on the first few go rounds though. Thanks for reading my blog.

chek'd little Adolf
It's unfortunate that you have this narrow view, Biusch is excellent beer. It is light and refreshing, you can drink it from 6am to 2am without puking, passing out, or blacking out. The hangovers are very minimal due to the high water content and quality production with low methanol and other contaminant.
Because Busch is so bland, it goes with everything, I haven't found a food it doesn't enhance. It also doesn't demand anything of you and the final beer at night is as refreshing as the first one at 10am on a fishing trip.

Understanding these qualities is a way for you to demonstrate your sophistication and have people respect you for not assigning a value system which is directly proportional to the price tag.

Consumer Elitism is the lowest form of discrimination, we've all fallen victim to it. I hope you someday outgrow this phase and join us in appreciating all of the quality this world has to offer, and not just consumer products.

Happy drinking my friend, I do enjoy these exchanges as I learn so much from guys like>>14107962 but unfortunately, not guys like you. I'd rather learn from you than argue about Cooonsooomerism.

I love my collection of cheap bourbon. Granted, traveling through Kentucky nets me opportunities others don't have, but some $10 bottles are leagues above $50-$100 bottles. Sorry, I won't share details, there's way too many memes, and just listen to recommendations on bottom shelf. There's gems out there, and I'm still pissed at heaven hill over the 6 year bib to 7 year with a freaking 175% price increase.

>Understanding these qualities is a way for you to demonstrate your sophistication and have people respect you for not assigning a value system which is directly proportional to the price tag
Now you're holding the opposite position in an argument with another guy in the same breath. And you're applying the exact same elitism in reverse. You think you're socially above people for having beaten the system with a couple of value for money purchases.
