the actual answer is portion size. Here in the US, its cultural to make sure everyone has more than enough to eat. When feeding someone we have this manner of 'dont let anyone go home hungry' hence the plates you see of american barbeque stuffed with too much meat corn and mashed potatoes. It's literally good manners to feed your guests well. In our restaurants, food is served with enough for two people with the assumption that you'll eat half, take the rest home so you have something to eat later

Somewhere along the line, we lost the plot though. A double serving is now considered a single. People overeat and think nothing of it so everyone not on some meme diet is xbox HUEG

>> No.14067670

The main problem is the food is too rich. I eat big portions, but it's low fat so I can eat comparatively more.

As long as there is a free market and the average consumer is looking for a bargain portion size will keep going up. There used to be a magazine called "the good old days" my grandmother had a subscription, there was a reprinted article from the early 1800's from a person who traveled to America and was appalled at the size of the portions in US restaurants.

Portion size evolved to what it is today because of multiple reasons, in ye olde days a hard working cowboy wanted a hardy meal for not much money and restaurant owners wanting their business found ways to make that happen.

It's the same today when joe bloe goes out with his family he looks at his wallet and at the menu and will always choose the bigger meal for the lower price because "muh bargain". that's why we have grotesque gulps of 1/2 gallons of soda at convenience stores with $.50 refills. because jane hoe and joe bloe will go there for their HFCS fix and hey look at those over priced family sized bag of chips that's half air WHATABARGAIN!

Fast food have dollar meals to get you to buy when them make out like bandits on soda. soda cost pennies to make has highly inflated prices for what you are getting and it's 99% profit.

mommy mommy give me the superthighed drink ilikesugar! ok honeybunchesofoats here's your tendies and apple slices also. apple slices! more sugar and calories then fries and not any better for you.

The average meal at a restaurant in the US is enough food for 2 people. unless you got to claim jumpers which can be enough for 4 or 5.

Australia is a nanny state

https://www.foodsafety.com.au/blog/are-restaurant-doggy-bags-legal

>Many people consider it their right to take home any food leftover after a restaurant meal. After all, they’ve paid for it, so why shouldn’t they?
However, they may not know all the facts about doggy-bagging laws and their potential threat to food safety.

>Many Australian restaurants have begun to ban the popular custom of allowing diners to take home uneaten food – but this doesn’t necessarily mean the practice is illegal. There’s currently no law in Australia that would prevent restaurants from offering their customers take-away containers for leftover food.

>According to each state’s food board, it’s actually up to the restaurant, but they do recommend erring on the side of caution. These authorities suggest that the containers be dated and the customer is given instructions on how to safely store and reheat the food. Some restaurants are taking this advice a step further and asking those who wish to take home leftovers to sign a legal waiver.

Americans work longer and work more manual labor than any other european country per capita. While we dont have exact data back in the day, it's nowhere close to unreasonable to assume the same or even a bigger gap existed in early America where there were far more farmers, subsistence farmers, and literally building the country at that time. Many European nations and civilization had been mostly built up by that point for centuries. That will result in a pretty insane difference when you consider the time frame North America was converted from raw land to three countries.

tl;dr

for real amerifats are fat because they have no food culture and it's all fast food style. even sit-down restaurants are fast food style food. you order an entree with sides. the meat is very expensive on its own so it's only affordable if you average it with a bunch of fries, dipping sauces, soft drink, fattening rolls etc. You usually can't just order a big plate of meat and veggies like you can in eurochad restaurants that have actual cuisines. In america everything is breaded, fried, dunked in sugar, with more dipping sauces on the side. this is what amerifats eat every day. of course it tastes worse if you reheat it, so they try to fit as much fried food in their belly while it's hot.

Obesity has a pretty strong correlation with when corn was added to everything and the increased portion sizes as a result. If you cook all your meals at home it is pretty damn hard to gain weight unless you try, and I say this as an American fat fuck who was obese for years. Obesity will always be a problem as long as corn byproducts is forced into everything we are sold that we do not cook ourselves and people do not have the time, energy, or generational knowledge to cook for themselves. The addiction to the additives is the genius part of it all, unfortunately.

It's a complicated issue with many facets, but there's a reason sugar's recommended daily value doesn't appear on the nutrition label and pizza was classified as a vegetable so it could be served to children. Food lobbyists are some of the scariest, richest motherfuckers out there and the corn, sugar, pizza, and meat lobbyists are hard to challenge.

Everyone's addicted to what they're selling, too, so no politician is going to make that challenge lest they be smeared into oblivion for muh freedoms on taking away muh twinkies, muh pizza, muh oreos!! It's ingenious and disgusting. Lack of education breeds dumber and dumber people.

The real redpill is to eat big portions but only once or twice a day with no snacking.
You want to eat a huge 1600 calorie meal? Okay well assuming you want 2000 calories in your day then eat a 400 calorie breakfast such as an omelette and then fast until dinner and enjoy your giant fuck off meal.
You can eat like a fatass while staying thin, you just have to do it smart.

Honestly, not paying for fast food and either cooking my own or bringing catering from work home and eating every few days has been a godsend. I've saved so much money for other shit I need/want. Paying 400-500 dollars a month for one person just in food is insane looking back on it.

It's not the calorie density that makes fast food and packaged snacks so fattening, it's the fact that they taste so good. Mcdonald's fries are not more calorie-dense than mashed potatoes with butter, and McDonald's burgers aren't more calorie-dense than bacon and toast; but how often do you cook bacon or boiled potatoes and then wanted to keep eating until it felt like your stomach was going to split at the seams? In my experience, the food I cook for myself is good, but it's not good enough to eat when I'm not hungry. Whereas if I go to burger king and eat my fill, I'll experience physical pain afterwards from how much I've consumed (not that I do this with any regularity). You just can't eat plain bacon to the point of sickness, because it straight up isn't good enough.

I think the modern American obesity epidemic is most accurately pinned on improvement in flavor rather than other more commonly touted factors:

>increases in calorie density / food is worse for you
This can't be it for the reasons I gave in my first paragraph. Americans have been eating potatoes and bacon since the country's founding.

>creeping increase in portion size
It can't be this, because portions are driven by appetite and not the other way around. If you gave the same person a plate of either infinite baked potatoes or infinite fries, and told them to eat as much as they want, they'd eat more if given the fries. The only explanation for increased portions is the fact that people want to eat more of the modern foods. People have always eaten until they were full.

>muh food desert
The USDA definition of a "food desert" is an area that's one mile away from a large supermarket. Yeah, a 15 minute walk sure is inaccessible...

>muh education / muh poverty
I'll grant the fact that black and poor people are extremely stupid and know almost nothing. That said, I doubt there is worse nutrition education in modern America since the 50's, or compared to what the average person knows in Thailand
