The majority of animal protein people ate prior to industrial farming came from fish. Just that anti-vegans most often pretend like there is no meat around apart from beef and pork. So fish gets left out of the discussion anyway most of the time since its not even considered proper meat, by catholics for example.

The majority of meat prior to industrialization in the West came from eggs, sheep, cattle, game, pigs, and yes, fish, but most of the West did not have regular access to large quantities of fish. The myth that nobody ate meat before Capitalism is just that: a myth. Peasants ate well, albeit they were greatly hamstrung by seasonality (you could only eat certain things in certain periods of the year).

The quality, amount and form of it were different. Fresh meat was only avaible when it was slaughtered or hunted, while now you can buy it everywhere. Idk if you are that same african dude too, but you probably do know meats which no westerner would touch then. Same with all other kinds of preparation methods like fermentation. The fridge is really a miracle.
