Potato appreciation thread.

I've recently come to the conclusion that potatoes are the best.
>Easy to grow
>Versatile
>Can be a food on it's own or a humble ingredient.

Seriously /ck/ potatoes are the best.
BTW, what are your favourite potato dishes? Mine has to be fresh mashed. Buttery potatoes with a little cheese, chives, and bacon. mmm. If it wasn't 4 in the morning I'd be mashing some potatoes right now.

Fries and chips (crisps) are peak potato but for a quick home dish I really appreciate the hasselback

Who the fuck cares what time it is? If you wanted your buttery mashed potatoes, then you'd make them. The reason you're not making them, is because you're a fucking europoor with no access to food.

Not a Eurofag, I am a stupid leaf that lives in a row house though. Don't want to wake the neighbors as I mash these delicious earthy treasures

do you seriously think $6/lb for potatoes is acceptable? That's not the price for any sort of fancy organic pesticide-free premium potatoes that's for the cheapest no-frills bag of potatoes.
A few years ago that same bag was like $3/lb.

Who said anything about it being acceptable? They don't cost that much where I live. But I have food stamps right now cause I'm unemployed due to all the bullshit that happened. Food is basically free for me right now.
I'm suggesting you do the same so you don't have to worry about shit like food prices for the time being.

Love 'em.
Small new ones almost in season now. I can eat those boiled with the skin on and a bit of salt and not want anything else.
Or toss them in a bit of oil (or duckfat if you have it) and some spices and herbs and roast them in the oven.
Later in the year when they get bigger you can roast them in embers or make potato salad with them.
In Winter when they don't have the "new" taste you can make potato soup or roast them as wedges.
Based spuds.

au gratin. but all are great. plain red or gold potatos, nothing, boiled, are good. i believe you are correct. best whole food item. only downside is they are not shelf stable, like rice is. white rice needs much more processing, even brown rice needs processing. and unpolished rice is too chewy, its good but not tasty like a potato. rice is close second, due to shelf stability. but you can grow, harvest and eat your own potatos with no special tools. talk about farm to table. and vitamin c! and fluffy! pic: freeze dried in peru. so they can be shelf stable.
