this is a sauce right? i bought sambal oelek once thinking it was like sriracha but it was some wierd paste type stuff

>> No.13913716

It's fairly pasty. It stays in a cylinder shape when you squeeze it out instead of running or dripping. My tube says chili sauce, not miso, but I'd imagine its the same.

how pasty? is it like sambal oelek?

buy cap jempol sambal asli. it's liquid, like sriracha but it doesn't taste like vinegary scrotums.

>> No.13914238

Gochujang is Korean, and made with sesame oil. Sriracha is vietnamese and fermented with just garlic

>> No.13914250

>>13914238

is it a sauce though? i dont care if its different then sriracha,i compared it to sriracha because sriracha is a sauce and sambal oelek was some kind of wierd paste when i bought it once

>> No.13914251

>>13913442
This shit, especially the miso kind, is REALLY good in small quantities in things like soup.

>> No.13914258

>>13914251

not really but some koreans like to dip veggies in it. i wouldn't compare it to sriracha since they're used for different stuff

>> No.13914662

>>13913442
here op,

do a couple heaping tablespoon of your pic related, and
varying/appropriate amounts of:
soy sauce
sesame oil
sriracha
rice vinegar
splash of soda(preferably coke)

mix that shit up and dip your tendies/tofu/fries/fried food in it. thank me later.

don't listen to him op, gochujang has nothing to do with sesame oil. it can have sesame oil in it but that's not what makes it what it is

it's a fermented mix of brown rice syrup and chili peppers, and it has a fermented kind of taste which will more than likely be amplified by the miso. it's a paste used for cooking.

>> No.13914680

>>13914662
also just be careful to not add too much soy sauce/sriracha or it'll become too salty. you want to dilute the saltiness a little bit, hence the rice vinegar and splash of coke. but if you do those too much it'll be too vinegary/sweet (the gochujang is already semi-sweet on its own)

>> No.13914999

>>13914258
Gochujang is thicker than sambal. It's definitely a paste, but you can thin it out. Ssamjang is just a blend of gochujang and doenjang at its base, but you can add other things to it (garlic, scallions, sesame, etc.) if you want.
