If you already made your own burger sauce, use that on the buns. Trust me on this part though: when your burgers are about ready, after seasoning and all that, grate a good amount of PR parmesan on top of them and wait until it starts to soften and sweat out its oils. As soon as you see that, put a slice of American over it to seal it all in. When the American is sufficiently melted, serve it up.

Onion is a must, white or red. Fried is good, so is raw. Either way a great burger has onions.

Tomato and pickle chips are good if desired.

Toasted buns are a must.

Salt/pepper seasoning on the burger.

Always make sure the patty is smashed fairly thin before cooking, it will plump and shrink regardless.

Mayo and mustard I find to be the best condiment choice, though if you want to be special, mix mayo, mustard, and dill relish to make a quick imitation Big Mac sauce.

Either super simple with ketchup mustard pickles and onions.

Or a little bit of everything when it comes to vegetables. (Bacon is really only a solid option if the hamburger isn't higher quality.)
