You know, I thought that something was different about it the last time I had it. I used to drink it all the time from like 2012 until like 2015ish when I started getting more into other whiskeys. It's a real shame too, used to love Evan Williams, guess I'll stick to Knob Creek from now on.

It's pretty great whiskey, it's me and my friends favorite drink. If I had more money, I'd get scotch in the end, but the bourbon there is really great.

Built up a tolerance fast, cause we'd watch gangster movies, having started with Goodfellas. It was great. The genre ended with Heat, but didn't finish that, nor Casino, due to the guys being so pussywhipped. it's started being infuriating how these powerful men take their girls shit and eat it.

Now it's on to war movies, starting with Full Metal Jacket once this crisis ends

To be fair, the whole point was that Ace was kinda pathetic, and a definite cuck/simp/whatever buzzword you wanna use. By the end of the movie he's pretty much back to square one, with literally all his time in Vegas having been a waste. The unraveling or end of every characters' life is just as important to it as the decadence and badass mafia shit in the first half is.

Good taste for the most part either way, though, and I definitely agree with your choice of whiskey.

Wild Turkey 101 is all I buy these days.

Evan Williams 1783 is best Evan Williams. A little more money, but a whole lot better product. I've got it on good authority that some places fill up the more expensive whiskeys with EW1783.

Few are discerning enough to tell. I think the average drinker perceives smoothness more than anything. Wine, beer, liquor...doesn't matter what it is -- if it has "heat" and reminds one of paint thinner, then it will be rated lower. Expensive whiskeys are a meme because whatever flavor profiles they may have are completely irrelevant to most people's tastes. The mid-tier whiskeys can hit that smoothness profile at an affordable price making anything else a "more money than brains" situation.

What kind of Beam have you been drinking? White label? Evan Williams is much better than white label Beam, and cheaper as you have discovered. For my tastes, EW isn't bad, but it's a little too sweet.

My daily drinker right now is Beam Double Barrelled. Smooth and delicious and economical. You have to like the Beam mash bill though.

That tier of "whiskey" isn't even whiskey. It's neutral grain alcohol with caramel color and artificial flavors. Old Crow is the cheapest actual whiskey I've been able to find, and while it's not good by any stretch, it at least doesn't taste like nail polish remover mixed with 100 year old butterscotch discs.

In terms of a whiskey that's consistently fine, relatively reasonable in price, and can be found pretty much fucking anywhere, IMO Jim Beam.

Is it even legal to call a whisky "scotch" if you go the KD route? Feels like they have a few more restrictions. Now KD can use the word "whiskey", but they can't call it a bourbon. Blended seems the best they're legally able to do. As well as slapped Kentucky on it. The bottle in that post does say blended too, but I feel like Scotland wouldn't let cheap tiers use the word scotch. Unless it was actually 100%, and not "scotch" where 75% of it is neutral grain spirits.

>> No.13894815

Pure devil juice. On several occasions, after arriving at a party to find it deep in the throws of utter debauchery, I asked myself "wtf is going on in this house". After looking around at the faces of sluttified "good girls", mongrelized normal guys and concerned hosts I would then notice the empty gallon of Evan Williams.

Every fuckin time.

>> No.13894912

Technically, it must contain at least some malt whisky and all the spirits must be aged 3 years (including the the grain whisky ie the neutral grain spirit) in order to be called scotch whisky. The majority of blends are pretty bad though and probably dont contain that much malt whisky. Doing a side by side tasting of a blend and the same blend made in the 80s is particularly illuminating. Scotch was at low point then (as opposed to the boom we have now) and you can tell they were putting much better whisky into blends in order to win over customers. Single malts also weren't as much of a thing so there was more good whisky to put into blends (instead of bottling them as single malts).

>tldr; blends are basically a dead category if your an enthusiast for a variety of reasons. Notable exception is the great king street blends which are excellent (and fully disclose the amount of grain whisky in them on their website)

>> No.13894919

>>13894912
Feels like a lot of alcohols have recently been picking up the last couple of decades. Would be interesting to try a bottle of alcohol from the 80s, but that probably requires some luck and money.

Definately man. If you get a chance to try an old blend jump on it. My friend brought back a bottle of 80s Johnny Walker black from Taiwan and it was awesome. Night and day between it and the modern stuff. Put jw green, double black, and a whole lot of shitty single malts to shame too. I can really see where it got its reputation. That being said try the king street blends if you can find them. Great whisky that I'd put against any single malts in the price range (well at least where I live). There still about half grain whisky but GOOD grain that has been aged for an appropriate amount of time and actually contributes to the flavour. They are made by compass box who started about with niche grain blends and really know how to blend grains. No age statement but non chill filtered and no colouring added iirc. Closest thing I've had to an old school blend.

Depends on which Beam line you're talking about.
EW BiB is pretty much better then standard Beam lineup, however Knob Creek is a lot better then EW in my opinion but not as good as the high end stuff that Heaven Hill makes (Elijah Craig, William Heavenhill, Old Fitzgerald).
Booker's used to be amazing but now it's way too young stocks and the quality has dropped. Little Book is pretty solid but too expensive. Bookers Rye I hear is supposed to be fucking amazing but it's impossible to find one for under $1000 because of secondary kikes.

It’s cheap and has a plastic screw off cap. It doesn’t pack alot of flavor but the flavor it does have is completely agreeable. It does pack some tasty heat after the fact but it never burns. I find absolutely nothing harsh in it what so ever. Is it the best? No. Is it completely decent whiskey costing a fraction of the price for other stuff? Yep. Not a damn thing wrong with this whiskey and not a damn thing not to like about it.
