Ice in whisky is fine if it's a cheapy blend. It's basically making a whisky and soda without the fizz slowly. Plus it's fun to drink.

Not what I was told by a master distiller at the Glenmorangie distillery. He said you should always add a little water. Traditionally peat water but that this is where adding ice and soda come from. Although those were too much and just a little water was preferable.

Some morons think that adding water to whisky creates voodoo magic that adds flavor to whisky, when all its really doing at a scientific level is making guaiacol float to the top of the glass, making the first sips of the dram more flavorful, the last sips of the dram less flavorful, and the average sip less flavorful due to dilution. Don't be a Goofus. Be Gallant.

>A new study reveals why our taste perception is enhanced as the temperature of food and beverage products increases, explaining why beer is more bitter and ice cream is sweeter when consumed warm.
>The study, published in last week's Nature journal, identified microscopic channels in our taste buds- termed TRPM5- as being responsible for different taste perception at different temperatures.
>According to the researchers, the reaction of TRPM5 in our taste buds is much more intense when the temperature of food or fluid is increased, sending a stronger electrical signal to the brain and resulting in an enhanced taste.

My mother got me some whisky stones for Christmas one year and I have tried them out in various drinks.
They kinda suck. I'd rather have my vodka get watered down a bit my an icecube than have a couple rocks in there that feel like they do nothing.
I've been wondering if I could take it the other way and heat them up instead. Put them inside a pheasant or something to heat it from the inside as well.
