It's just incredibly aerated coffee. I'm no scientician but I dont even think its an emulsification because there's no oil in instant coffee(i think) there's no milk involved in the cream, you put the cream on top of mik

just mix together equal parts sugar, instant coffee and boiling water and whisk until you get a consistency similar to a whipped cream and spoon it onto milk.

>Buy a grinder
The most important step. Kinu if you are serious or something like the Aergrind if you are poor. Don't listen to the Timemore shill who frequents /ctg/ and don't ever fall for the Lido meme.
>Buy a brewer.
For me, it's the V60 in ceramic (<$20), but the Kalita Wave is also fine. Only faggots use the Aeropress or Chemex. A French press is also nice to have if you want to try something different or make cold brew. Never fall for the Moka meme and espresso is a rabbit hole you don't want to enter for a long time.
>Buy coffee
Search for a local roaster. You probably have one even if you live in the middle of nowhere. If you don't, order from a roaster online. Do not fall for the (((Trade))) meme, no matter how tempting it seems. Experiment with different countries and varieties, but make sure that you are buying single origin. African coffees taste very different from South American or South Asian coffees, so try several until you find a flavor profile that you really like.

a basic recipe doesn't need any of that.
>get a small bowl, metal or plastic
>6 grams instant coffee
>20 grams sugar (granulated or white)
>20 grams boiling water
get a frothing metal whisk and whisk it for ages by hand until it foams up.
pour some milk into a cup with some ice then top it with the foam.
If you want to use a blender you will probably need to double or even triple the ingredients to make it work. also be careful of how much you have as instant coffee is apparently extremely strong compared to regular coffee.

is a $200 hand grinder (lido, kinu, etc) really superior to an entry-level $150 automatic grinder (baratza)?

i'm ready to upgrade my grinder game from my entry-level porlex mini because i'm no longer enjoying grinding for 2 minutes straight

They're extremely shittily aligned. My lido 2(original with italmill burrs) completely stripped its shaft out of the burr after a few months. After the runaround with customer support, they sent me another with etzinger burrs. Lidos are only in the conversation because a few years ago they were the only "espresso" capable grinder at the price point. The market quickly surpassed them and now they make overpriced plastic junk. Hopefully the anon who couldn't return his lido to amazon will chime in. Guy fucking hates that grinder. The goal is getting the most consistent grind you can. If your upper burr is kicked up on one side, even slightly, you're not getting as consistent of a grind. You can use the best burrs on the market, but if they're not aligned properly, why bother? Good choice on the kinu, I'm thinking about picking up the pourover burrs for mine soon.
