It's actually very very good for the price. If you can, pick up the 8 year. It's only a little bit more expensive and tastes better than a lot of £30-£40 bottles I've had. >vodka is an odorless, flavourless liquid
... take a strong whiff and then swig from the bottle. That is patently untrue. Ethanol has both an odour (of slightly sweet, flammable death), and a flavour (of poisonous, slightly sweet, flammable death). The more impurities/congeners you get, the more noticeable things like sweetness, burn, and solvent flavours become. There are allowable amounts of congener aldehydes, alcohols and esters (like formaldehyde, propanol and methyl-ethanoate) in any liquor. While they're discouraged in vodka, they do have a very low taste threshold, so you'll find that the cheap double-distilled, single filtered plastic jug might have a slight elmers-glue nose to it, and a slightly nutmeg/mace aftertaste on the burn. Things that the mid-shelf guys don't have. Goose and Belvedere aren't worth the price, but they're very clean. Tito's has a very slight bit of rum-like fruitiness to it (, but it's not unpleasant. Stolichnaya has some of of that with a bit more pentyl acetate - pear odour, which usually just comes across as a microscopic whiff of paint thinner.

Go figure, most of these congeners that make a bad vodka, make a great rum.
