Never had smoked cheese, is it as good as it looks? Worth the effort of smoking it yourself?

It's textbook antisemitism.

It's just cheese with a smokey flavor--if that's what you're into, great!
if not, then it's not worth it

Also, are you making your own cheese? If not, it's probably cheaper to buy smoked cheese rather than buying unsmoked cheese and then smoking it

do you think he put this much thought into his thread? he just wants attention

It's great but I've never had it smoked myself.
Was in the Polish mountains near the Slovakian border last Summer, they had Oscypek, a Polish smoked mountain cheese. Really delicious, a texture and saltiness similar to halloumi. For only about £0.40 you could buy some that they would grill and serve with some kind of jam.

Yes and yes.

Smoked cheese is incredibly good, but a lot of the smoked cheeses at the supermarket just use smokey flavor to cover up an otherwise unimpressive cheese.

Go find a high-quality sharp aged cheddar that you like on its own, then smoke it, and you'll have the god of all cheeses.

It can be good. Smoking it yourself can be a bit tricky. Definitely easier if you live in a cooler climate.

Smoked cheese is pretty expensive here. Isn't there some kind of DIY setup for smoking cheese?

>>13838378
God forbid someone wants to discuss food on the food board.
Maybe you'd prefer I call the thread cheese general or something?

Better, if it's done well

If you want it done well

Its pretty good, man. Smoked provolone is super mild and prob not worth. Go for some smoked Guda and crackers of choice. For me its triscuits or butterfly crackers

I'd give my left lung for a smoked cheese pig.

>smoked mozzarella

isn't that kinda pointless? I mean, smoking would draw out moisture which is kinda the point of mozzarella cheese.

smoked gouda is so fucking good

I've smoked cheeses in my weber kettle before. The only tricky part is keeping the heat low. Get some pellets and a smoker tube and that won't be a problem.

smoked cheese is great as long as you don't accidentally buy a bad one
they sell smoked processed gouda in the same case as the actual cheese and it isn't even real smoke
I couldn't stand that stuff, it was probably one of my worst culinary experiences ever when I was expecting actual smoked gouda
the worst part is they charged me the same fucking amount of money
