Im guessing you mean the 12 year old? If you havent really had scotch before, its not a bad place to start. Its very middle of the road with no overwhelming characteristics either way.

Having been through quite a few different whiskeys and knowing what
I like, I wouldnt ever buy it for myself. But I wouldnt be upset to get it as a gift.

What you rec to start with scotch?

>> No.13816156

>>13816099
I guess it depends on what you normally drink. If you have never tried whiskey in any form, then I think bourbon is the best place to start. I always found it much more approachable than scotch. Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve or any other mid tier would be fine.

If you want to go straight in to scotch then personally I would recommend something like Dalwhinnie 15 or Glenmorangie 10. Both are readily available, not too expensive and fairly rounded drinks.

If you know you really prefer a certain type of flavour then look out for that instead. When I started on scotch, I knew I already liked spiced rum. So my first few scotches were sherry matured scotch which is closer to spiced rum flavours than other types of scotch.

Laphroaig is a peated scotch, which gives it a distinct smoke, salt, and tar taste that not everybody likes. It's a good introduction to peated scotch, but not a good starter.

>> No.13816289

>>13816262
Lots of people love it, and some hate it. Its not something that I would ever suggest to someone to buy a bottle of as an introduction to whisky. It took me probably 5 years of drinking whisky before I actually started enjoying something like Laphroaig.

Laphroaig is an Islay whisky. They tend to be peaty and smokey and Laphroaig especially has a tcp taste to it. Islay whisky is quite distinct and unlike most other scotch.

No doubt there are people who started on Laphroaig from there first bottle and will only drink peaty, smokey scotch now. If that was my first experience of scotch, I dont think I would have ever bothered again.

Any seasoned alcoholics here that can tell me what I experienced earlier today? I have recently fallen into what I consider "alcoholism", being that I have drank a pint to a fifth of vodka a day for the past 7 months or so. I just love the buzz, and like to keep it indefinitely.. but today I cut down seriously, and my heart started beating freakishly fast, and I thought I was about to have a panic attack or something, then I took a few drinks, and it subsided.. but shit. Is this what is going to happen now if i stop? Is there a way to keep the buzz going without the anxiety? Not sure if I'm making sense. I don't give a shit about my health in the long run from alcohol, but that fast heart rate shit scared me and I don't want to feel that again. Oh, and pic related is what I've been mainly living on for a few weeks. I find food has also seemed repulsive as of late.

Midori and Chambord are tough since they're such strong fruit flavors. Cooking will be difficult but you could make some non-alcoholic drinks.

For the chambord, make glogg. Bring it to a simmer for awhile to boil off all the alcohol.

For the midori you could do a hot toddy and, once again, simmer until your alcohol is gone.

this specific strain of coronavirus is bioengineered to be highly transmittable. I'm not saying it's a bioweapon but it's a pathogen that combines SARS, HIV and the flu that is extremely unlikely to have occured naturally, but probably was created in that lab in Wuhan. There are so many people at risk of dying and most of the west has outsourced manufacturing of really important medical supplies and equipment, so even more people can die just because of incompetence. it's not a meme. most boomers survive respiratory problems easily because a respirator is always at hand, only young people really can survive respiratory diseases without a respirator (the virus causes the disease covid-19, the virus is the amalgamation of the different things that were created in a lab).

I found a 3L fliptop bottle of a belgian stout I'd brewed a year ago and given to my girlfriend... she had two glasses and went to bed... which leaves me to drink another litre of this now, or have some flat beer tomorrow.

It aged really, really well. A little bit of banana yeast here, a bit of coffee/cocoa malt there, but overall just a nice little dessert stout... a little sarsaparilla, and this could have been the world's most adult rootbeer.

Give it time. One dram and that's all for today.
Stick your nose in there for ages, until it's not so smokey anymore.
Leave out a glass after you've finished it and give it a whiff the next morning.
There are flavours other than smoke. Acclimatising to the smoky smell or being able to identify the other scents will help you see the attempt at balance.
IMO Ardbeg is sweet as fuck. Try to pick that up.

Forcing yourself to drink more wont help. You'll just resent it.
