What can I do to improve?

:/ Well I guess start with cooking eggs. Have eggs and butter and learn to scramble them just right so they taste like cheese. The trick is to use as little heat as possible and constantly stir.

I really hope you're young, even if you are I'm kind of dissapointed that your mother had a daughter and didn't teach her how to cook. Like what am I looking at here?

>just right so they taste like cheese
What the actual fuck
>use as little heat as possible and constantly stir
Sure, if you want a 3 minute meal to take 10 minutes and end up with a load of eggy, pebbly garbage. It's medium/high heat and infrequent "stirring" (it's not really stirring because you let the egg in contact with the pan cook then gently scrape that layer up exposing uncooked egg to the pan base). Before all the egg is fully cooked, remove from the pan from the heat and grab your toast, plate, etc. It will continue to cook in the pan. This way you end up with larger, velvety sheets of egg which are pleasant to eat and don't bounce all over your plate like a thousand tiny rubber balls.

Use recipes first.
Good recipes.
Don't just look up the name of the dish you want to make and use the first one you find.
It can be difficult to find good recipes online though so for an absolute beginner like you I would just recommend versions from celebrity chefs.
Since they are always checked for edibility and often get a bit dumbed down.
Follow those recipes to a t, not straying whatsoever.
If you don't have the right ingredient or dish to make the food, then don't make it.
You are not at the level where you can improvise yet.
Now while you are making these recipes take time to think about how the individual ingredients coms togeteje, what seasoning is used and what happens when each ingredient is cooked with their respective cooking method.
Through this perhaps start experimenting with 1 or 2 ingredients at a time.
For example: eggs and different types of oils
There are a million ways to cook eggs, and 2 million ways to fuck them up.
Learn what makes them come together the best in each cooking method you try.
Don't be afraid to do some online research!
These are important first steps to being a good cook, steps which 9/10 people don't even bother with.
Best of luck
Oh yeah I know you probably don't trust me (this is 4chan why would you) but I'm a professional chef who's currently sitting at home in quarantine cause no restaurants open.

Oh yeah 2 other super basic things.
Get yourself a set of measuring spoons, dry measuring cups and at least 1, 2 cup wet measuring cup. If you need to know what these look like just reply and I can show you.

Once you have these you must do one thing.
Always. Always. Always. Measure your ingredients!
It takes a long time to learn to eyeball ingredients and even then it's easy to fuck it up!

Anyways aside from that maybe just go to a thrift store and pick up some cookbooks, that's always a good way to get some recipes.
A good trick is to try and by books that look beat up and well used (look for cracks in the spine). This means the last owner must have liked the recipes in it enough to beat it up so much.
Anyways once again, best of luck and read the directions of the box of pasta before you cook it. Make sure they're fully covered with water in a large pot! Those look fuckin wack!

Keep trying. Read a lot.
For pasta for instance, keep a glass of the pasta water and dilute a bit of it with your sauce to add the starch that will get the pasta to stick to the sauce. Also the sauce should be panned and heated first (cooked if you make it from scratch which is the better alternative) and then you dump a bit of pasta water AND THEN you put the pasta in and mix them up.
A whole new world opened to you anon. Walk before you run and you'll be grand.

Maybe start with some simple yet really good:

- minced meat 300-400g
- 2 yellow onions
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- a can of crushed tomatoes
- a teaspoon of salt, a pinch of black pepper
- 1dl red wine
- 1-2 tablespoons of basil
- maybe add some time or oregano (depends on your taste)

some spaghetti of-course and maybe top it with some parmesan (gf loves parmesan i don't :D).

There is no such thing as "not being able to cook". all cooking is is following simple instructions. So it's not that you "can't cook" it's just that you are stupid and deserve to starve.

>> No.13827686

>>13827614
Since I assume you're an absolute beginner OP, this is a good recipe but he doesn't tell you how to cook it. Try this:

1. Prepare all of your ingredients first. Dice your onions, how small depends on your preference. If you don't even know how to do this look up a tutorial (not even joking, improper knife technique can hinder you)

2. Put a saucepan on the stove at medium high heat. Once it's warm, drizzle some olive oil in, and put the onions in. Cook the onions, stirring occasionally until it's starting to get transparent and the color goes from solid white/yellow to clear white/brown. If you're feeling adventurious adding a clove of two of crushed garlic here isn't a bad idea.

3. Put in the minced meat. Break it up, stir it around in the pot till the meat is gray, but not brown

4. Put the crushed tomato cans, red wine, oregano, basil, bay leaf if you have it. The wine serves a few purposes but the main one is to offset the acidity that comes from canned tomatoes. So if you don't have wine you can use a pinch of sugar instead, although using too much can irreparably ruin everything. Key with seasoning is to use less than more, and then add more if you need to.

5. Bring the mixture up to a simmer (when you see little bubbles coming up), lower the heat and let it cook for 40-60 mins.

6. Cook pasta and then pour the sauce over.

>>13827686
I do it almost like you do it but i let it simmer for 15-20 minutes then add red wine and basil and let it simmer another 5-10 minutes.

Taste and add depending on ypur taste pressed garlic or time or oregano.

Cook pasta and top it with parmesan or another cheese depending on your taste :D

A green salad addon also :D

Follow a recipie religously until you get it right.
Any simple recipie ANY simple meal, when you think you have got it switch up to a new one.
A personal favourite of mine is fried rice/chow mein.

The more recipies you learn the stronger your grasp on cooking methods will become

Remember to not be disencouraged if what you cook turns out bad, all food is good if you are satsfyied by it.

Every cook has made a bad meal/had a accident in the kitchen.

Don't do what you feel like it is right if you are a beginner. Only after you have cooked for some time you get a sense of missing ingredients or what could be a good mix/addition to what you are cooking.

Going online might be overwhelming in the beginning since there is so much info. A good place to start might be what you already ate. You probably have some favorites from your childhood. Maybe track some family member who knows how to cook them.

First off, did you put scrambled eggs in with meat for spaghetti? Really? Don't do that ever again is good advice for that particular meal.

Second, since you seem to be struggling with sauces for pasta in general, you might be better off learning to make a simple pesto or garlic butter sauce. Meat sauce can be purchased in a jar. Burgers are a good use of any beef you might have as they literally just involve forming the meat and seasoning with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder and then cooking them to whichever type you want (rare, medium rare, medium well, etc)
