What kinds of toys have you acquired to get you through your "new" lifestyle of never ever going outside?

For me, it is the superior samurai knife made by the noble proud warriors of Japan.

Anyone want to talk about stabby toys or do we only talk about black cuckold porn now? The question is should I be considering a meme brick of joy. And would my natural nagura suffice.

Forming "mud" is a meme, as is flattening stones. Just try to use every part of the surface equally while sharpening (the ends of the stone work will for parers and pettys) and you will never ever have to flatten the stone and waste a huge amount of abrasive material.

And mud does nothing for sharpening, except slow it down and produce a shittier edge. It reduces the burr a little bit but thats about it.

Yes, it will last you the rest of your life. And a great many kitchen knife enthusiasts consider it the best stone there is for German stainless steel type blades.

I get a better edge from my mudstones than from any of my space age no-flattening no-soak stones.

Well that settles it, straight to the trash.

Just learn how maintain one angle throughout the sharpening process anon ...

>> No.13785030

>>13785024
and learn how to deburr properly. That is probably the reason why you think you get a better edge on the mudstones, the mud reduces the burr "naturally" so to speak but it will also round off the edge a bit.

bought a le creuset dutch oven for $185. half off because the enamel on the lid is slightly too thin so the lettering cast iron is visible, and there's an almost invisible pit in the corner on the inside. gonna use it to bake bread.

I think you've confused angle and particle size. Easy mistake to make.

Deburring != sharpening

>> No.13785408

>>13785386
... yes? I didnt claim otherwise. Deburring is a necessary part of sharpening though. No matter what stone you use and what technique your edges will always be crap if you dont deburr properly. I suspect you dont deburr properly on your hard stones and get better results on your mud stones because the mud reduces the burr considerably.

Yes you did

Nobody said it wasn't

I suspect you have a case of dunning-kruger syndrome. The advantage of a mudstone is that it covers more steps in one stone. You get an aggressive cut when there's no slurry. You get a less aggressive cut when there is. Has nothing to do with angles or deburring.

The one in your pic? Looks like some cheap piece of shit industrial knife, like a Cozzini or something similar. It also looks like some has raped it on a coarse disc bench grinder.

I dont think that knife has a back blade face. I think it has a near mirror polished surface and it just reflects something dark into the camera, the ceiling maybe.

>> No.13788126

>>13787960
that's definitely just the reflection of the light. the knife is normal color.

Picked up puerh recently while waiting on the spring sencha harvest. Haven't picked up any new knives in close to a year as I have more than I actually need. Pipes are all from a decade ago and I just slowly work my way through a hundred or so bucks of tobacco every several years.

Ultimately, I got cooking, tea drinking, and smoking a pipe while I walk my dog to occupy me, which will be good since it's possible I'll have to close my business in a few weeks.

The school I teach at is closed starting tomorrow ... the teachers still have to come in and "be present", even if there are no pupils. Fuck my life. 50 miles one way commute just so I can browse porn in my office all day.
