why is decent pizza so damn expensive? its at least $30+ for a decent pie thats not some shitty pizza hut / little caesars variant.

Overpriced ingredients. Keep in mind that's also just for basic pizza like Margherita or something.

>muh San Marzano tomatoes

Key to pizza is really a good dough, proper wood burning oven and baking it just right.

Pic related is an expensive pizza (around 10€) for what it is (handmade datterini tomato sauce, mozzarella di bufala, and a few leaves of fresh basil) in my city, but it's one of the best pizzeria available in my area, run by actual neapolitans. I mean I sure can get a decent pizza for less than 10€, but I have no problems spending 10-12€ on an excellent pizza.

Good pizza isn’t worth anymore than 15-20 bucks for a large tops. If you’re paying 30 bucks for a pizza you’re a crazy person or have much more disposable income then me. If that’s the case good on you but it could be going to something much better than pizza and I really hope it’s a dang good pizza.

neapolitan is not like other pizza. it is meant to be soft and pliable. do not be surprised when people think its not pizza, it's more like bread with tomato and basil and bufmos. compare to margherita style, that is more a fair comparison to me.

That is an actual Italian pizza made in Italy by an actual neapolitan pizzaiolo, and I can assure you it's the second best pizza I've ever had, with the first one being pic related, still made by actual neapolitans, although the pizzeria is 500km souther, and much nearer to Naples, than the other one. What you see is a margherita by definition: tomato, mozzarella, a leaf or two of basil on top; you can have it with mozzarella di bufala instead of regular mozzarella, and the tomato sauce can be made out of particular types of tomato, but that is still a margherita. These two pictures can be held as the gold standard for pizza.

30 cm pizza in Kyiv (one of the first restaurant with wood fire oven) costs like 180 UAH( like 7-8 dollars). For example dominos here cost something like 200-250 UAH for 36cm depends on type of pizza + 45 UAH for philadelfia crunch.

You can make restaurant tier pizza from home for under $10.

Don't @ me with the memes about cast iron, it's superior if you want brick oven texture.

1. Make your dough (flour, water, olive oil, sugar, yeast.) Make it so the dough is together but still sticky. Keep your hands moist while you kneed it so it doesn't stick.

2. Pop that shit in the refridge for a day.

3. Next day, grab the biggest cast iron pan you have.

4. Preheat over to the hottest setting you possibly can.

5. Take dough out, stretch to fit bottom of the pan, don't overwork the shit and make it as thin as possible (tossing is superior if you got the skillz.)

6. Put any labeled pizza sauce down, put a tad more than you like because the dough will absorb some. Grate fresh parmesan cheese and sprinkle that in your sauce (like 1/4 a cup or so.

7. Grate some full fat mozz, however much you use, use twice as much part skim if you want to make a family sized pizza (too much full fat and your pizza will be soup.) grate a touch of cheddar, some gouda and provolone.

8. Cover that shit in cheese, all the way to the edge of the pan, it'll make a burnt cheese ring which is delicious. Turn your stove top burner to like 6-7 and let it cook on there for 5-7 minutes (you'll know when it's done because steam will be billowing out of the side or middle.

9. Throw that shit in the over until the cheese is melted and browned.

10. Take that shit out and eat it. The crust will be crispy but also floppy.

Your welcome.
