Old news, we had a thread about it over a week ago.
This isn't a new policy, they just started bothering to enforce it in some places. They'd been enforcing it at my local Costco for years because it was close to the university campus. It's harder for them to enforce this at locations where the food court has a separate entrance, but they might start doing that now.

It makes sense, they sell those items so cheap in the food court that they break even if they're lucky, with the hope that they'll make their money from shoppers on items in the store.

Most often a strange mix of requiring a license to sell alcohol in the state, while also having expanded coverage under state laws that mirror the federal civil rights act. You can't have a private club that sells alcohol because you need a state license to sell and they have laws that say you can't restrict any access to state regulated activities. They would need to amend their state level rights act to allow denial of state regulated activities by having a private club.

Yeah especially since the meat and seafood is better quality and significantly cheaper. The produce except for fruit is poor quality, though. But rice, beans, coffee, canned tuna, oils, sauces like worcetershire, ketchup, and mustard are all cheaper. Not to mention toilet paper and paper towels. I buy a $100 membership at Sam's and with cash back ends up only being $40/year.
