Cooking steak in an Air fryer is a game changer

Background on my normal: filet mignon pan seared (take the pants off of anyone…use sparingly) and for other cuts; grill and always rare or med-rare…need it darker?..gladly throw it in the microwave and toss the ketchup also. I don’t mess around with my steak or the impression I intend for it to have.

So, to the point: oh my…! This was the best NY strip I’ve had, pretty sure ever. All we kept saying was “so juicy” in between chomps and gasps for air. I thought my air fryer was the best invention ever and this recipe just sealed it.

Had no time for season and chill, so it got smacked with some McCormick and pepper right out of the fridge and cooked dry (out of butter, next time). Cooked at 400 (mine only goes to 400) for 12 min, could’ve gone 13, maybe 14? but better safe than ketchup

Wait why the ketchup hate?

Absolute WORST bait ever. Subtle as a sledgehammer. Only retards will fall for this...

The only food I would cook in an air fryer would be for people I don’t like.

Turkey, heh

I've never used an air fryer. What's the appeal? Lack of oil? I don't know how they work. Surely something juicy would be, well, dried by them while its cooked? Educate me if I'm wrong, I have genuinely never eaten from one.

>Lack of oil?

this is about it. I made some bomb wings in an air fryer and greaseless fries Other than that it's pretty much the same as a fryer or high intensity oven

its just seizing on americans who think eating their pile of fries is somehow healthier if they "air fry" aka convection oven their fries rather than fry it normally

Was it good? How would you compare things cooked in it (in terms of flavour, texture, whatever) to those done in oil or other standard methods? And I guess more to the point, was it worth buying one?

I've not seen the argument for healthier. Would the lack of oil reduce fat content on the finished meal? I've noticed some modern chefs are basically saying don't be scared, use oil, it's fine, and I've basically agreed that as long as it's not excessive you shouldn't be afraid of using these things for a tasty meal. But if people are using it for a healthier meal... is it a big difference or just a meme?

I doubt having an air fryer has adds more health benefits of eating processed fried foods. If you fry properly you shouldn't be left with food that is greasy but frying at a high temp might be unhealthy

>But if people are using it for a healthier meal... is it a big difference or just a meme?
It's more about perception. Somehow air frying processed food sounds healthier than deep frying even if it might be not.

I would add generally people that air fry, air fry stuff that is already fried already given that air fryers are shit when doing fresh potato chips/wedges/fries and freshly breaded nuggets/tendies rather than prefried nuggets/tendies

Because of the lack of oil it's a lot easier to make things "crispy" if that makes sense, but tastewise everything has been similar.

Mine has an option to roast and bake as well so if I don't want the moisture being "fried out" I can do a traditional dish that has more moisture in it.

That's interesting. I don't have a deep fat fryer so I just fry in a bit of oil in a pan whenever I do. Nice to know that I'm not exactly missing out on an air fryer though.
>>13749649
That makes complete sense, I tend to use fresh food (not that I don't enjoy something fatty and fried of course) so I suppose there's a time and place for an air fryer.
>>13749677
Yeah, I guessed it'd help with crispy things, though the previous anon I replied to seems to be on point about what that'd best be applied to. Yours sounds interesting.

I guess I'd be interested in checking one out at some point if I have some money spare but I'm certainly in no rush. Thanks anons.

Air fryers are small, expensive, plastic, trendy convection toaster ovens.

Why spend $20 on a used convection toaster oven big enough to cook an entire chicken when you could spend $150 on a hunk of plastic that will sort of passably cook a half serving of fries?

I guess the other thing with a lack of oil is the cleanup. It's super easy to clean up and you don't have to dump out a pot of oil or even buy oil as well, so I guess that's a bonus as well. You could brush things with olive oil if you felt like it

They're completely different. For the air fryer I just put the steak in, press the button, then wala its done

Can't do that in an oven

Hey, that's a great bonus. Will still be a "maybe" purchase for my kitchen, but it's certainly something I'll consider, even if it's a good year before I get round to getting one. I'm sure I'll find a few things I prefer to stick in an air fryer over another method, as with anyone with most food.

They are convenient as hell when you're cooking for one or two people, No dirty pans and crap. They're really good for shitty NEET food like chicken nuggets and pizza rolls too. As for steak, every one I've made came out pretty juicy. Only tried New York strips though. Tougher cuts probably would be pretty dry.

I may have done it wrong but I tried it once just to see. it took away all the juices and tasted very bland. I'll stick to cast iron

Air fryers are significantly faster than roasting in an oven.

>> No.13750448

Cooking in an air fryer is significantly lower calorie than deep frying. It's the difference between making fries in a quart of oil (where the finished product ends up absorbing 10+% of its weight in oil) vs. 1-2 tbsp of total oil used.

Brainlet.
