Lots of things went wrong for this retarded corporation. Unironically I think the pro-drug anti-family sentiment growing in the West got rid of iconic pleasures like The Happy Meal and the play pen (you can still get it but it's not the fucking same. It has no soul.) The discontinuation of the dollar menu was the nail in the coffin as far as I am concerned. The problem these idiots haven't figured out yet is that no one is happy about going to McDonalds; no one is happy sitting in the drivethrough waiting for this worthless wageslave to feed us our slop. We know in our hearts we could be making more of an effort to improve our diets and our health but the value of a $1 McDouble or McChicken is difficult to argue with. They got rid of that; started introducing a bunch of stupid fucking "artisanal" burgers which cost $9 and were somehow the worst thing on the menu. They try to tease you along with these occasional promotions like McPick 2 for $2.50 or some other nonsense but it's all too late. Five Guys came out and everyone realized they can get a better burger with some peanuts for the price of a Big Mac and that was basically the end for McDonalds. Now there are a ton of fast food options which are better and it's only the lowest common denominator who eats at McDonalds now because they either don't know their left from right or don't have cars and since McDonalds is a real estate company first and foremost they are the closest food source for these animals

Don't know about the exterior, but the interior changes they did so that people can see the majority of the kitchen at first glance from behind the counter. This was done because fast food employees are the most likely to spit in people's food, even fast casual/family restaurant cooks don't do it so often, so by making the kitchen open to see by even the customers they hope that it'll discourage the shit workers from pulling that stuff, if not allow customers to flat out snitch to the manager if they happen to see it happen themselves.

I miss the old Taco Bell aesthetics. They kind of changed throughout the 2000s, but especially during the next decade, we have witnessed the rise of their current looks. I don't know if there are any Taco Bell stores left that have the old Mexican restaurant, or just generally Mexican and American Southwest architectural aesthetics, anymore. Has anybody seen one of those, in recent years? Taco Bell might change the design this decade, or the next, again, who knows? I hope they return to rustic warmth, rather than the look of a single storey office-sized skyscraper with Starbuck's inspirations. Is Starbuck's even that fashionable, anymore, of an influence?

They figured out that bright colors don't work anymore. Remember when they used to say reds made you likely to eat more? It was just bunk psudeopsychology created by marketing firms. The whole themepark paradigm has also changed.

Chick-fil-a was actually the first to start doing this. Natural materials, minimal colors (red logo but neutral colors elsewhere). Everyone loves chick-fil-a. It's not al Starbucks' fault. People also want authenticity, not a themed eating experience. The natural materials are warmer and cleaner. The inside isn't all plastic and vinyl anymore. It's "leather" and wood and stone. It's feels more homey than the old design. It's also less of an eyesore overall. Which city planners and people like. nobody like living to a trashy 70s carnival ride with clowns everywhere.

Updating their buildings also shows they care. If you go into an older McDonalds today it just feels less clean despite new coats of paint. It feels dated.

The food has changed too. The Supersize Me craze happened and people stopped going out for fastfood as much. Chick-fil-a was providing a better dine-in service which drew people in. They all moved towards creating a better dine-in experience. Making you feel more like an actual restaurant than a circus-themed truck stop is part of why they did a trendier re-design.

>letting children learn how to govern themselves is considered """"""child neglect""""""

Lmao, I bet when you become a parent, you're going to be the type to never let them take the bus or walk home after school by themselves, even when they're fucking 13 or 14. In Virginia, there are places called "Child Zones", where it's just a giant, fenced in wooded area, with a playground and some logs and shit, and no adults are allowed inside, except for these designated supervisors on duty in giant watch towers. Adults are advised not to interfere with child matters unless necessary, so kids have to figure their own problems out themselves. One child being too rough? They have to enforce their own laws. One child not sharing his toys? They have to figure shit out themselves. One child being excluded from the rest of the kids? He has to figure that shit out himself.

And then they gathered all the evidence, and it turns out kids who get practice learning to socialize without adult assistance, develop far faster than other children, and develop excellent leadership skills as well. No fucking duh. What a big surprise.

The absolute fucking STATE of zoomers right now.

If I recall correctly, the parks in virginia actually got the idea from like sweden or finland or something. The ONLY difference is that sweden (or finland) didn't even bother to have the adult supervisors. It was literally just a park with a bunch of trees and rocks gated shut, with no parents allowed.

And it worked 100%. The kids grew smarter, learned to be more confident, and grew up to have much better leadership skills compared to other kids. It's kind of a no brainer. Wow, you taught the kid how to socialize by putting him a park where he can practice socializing? HOW CAN THIS BE? HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?

Depressing architecture (and even the music they play inside) plays at least some part in why people don't want to go out for fast food anymore. You go out to feel good, and this dystopic, bland aesthetic doesn't help make the case to go there especially when depression is on the rise.

First he was used with text to speech YTMND shit in general. Rap songs sound funny when you do them with text to speech so people did rap songs with him. Then someone did this song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxFGhQsaSwI
Which if you listen to that link you'll here the song start out with "OK K K!"
With text to speech each "K" gets enunciated / lingered on a lot more so it sounds less like someone saying OK with extra Ks and more like someone mentioning the KKK. From there others extrapolated he was a white supremacist and had that sort of content as the focus of his lyrics. Also his head looks like klansman wearing his hood.

Speak for yourself, blandie.

Bright colors are meh, not the important part here. What I can't stand is it looking like a Psychology office.
Everything looks the same and none of them are places I'd think "oh yes, a happy place (hap-hap-hap-happy place) for children!"

Anyway about everything else you wrote:
I just don't see what differentiates these fast-food brands from just your local restaurant or diner now tho.
If they're trying to look more healthy then, I can only laugh at that attempt
Unless you were a special kid, you knew that McDonalds burgers were actually just "fun tumors"; you were just allowed not to care. But this consensus has existed way before I was born, it's part of popular culture to think that fast-foods are just chemical dumping facilities and shit. Why do they suddenly care now? How do they think people will forget that?

It's just weird seeing autistic fast-food places trying so hard to be normal and fit in with the locals, when being different was the one thing they were known for.
And it doesn't make me suddenly forget that "oh yeah, Happy meal is a death dish" just because their restaurant now have natural materials and look like a office building.

I think the reasoning is twofold
One, they're trying to cover up the fast food stigma by adopting modern styles and making commercials where they advertise their food as real food (slow motion pictures of cinnamon sticks and stuff). This is failing miserable and I have no fucking idea why they're going with that angle now instead of the "eating shitty fast foods brings you and your family together" thing they used to do.
Two, it's supposed to be a lot less comfortable of an atmosphere because homeless people love gravitating towards mcdonald's because it's a place you can hang out for eight hours at the cost of a dollar for a bag of fries or a coffee.

Might be a case of chicken and the egg, but also eating shitty fast food won't reverse the divorce and Ronald McDonald won't find your real dad (he's been phased out anyway).
Single Mother fast food commercials probably won't be popular until the next 10-20 years when it's 60-80% of households.

>> No.13729739

I don't think I understand what you meant by this post. When has mcdonalds ever had "single mother" commercials? I don't watch TV that much so maybe they do, idk? That'd be pretty fucking funny though, like associating eating deep fried potatoes and mechanically separated chicken with being a strong single woman. Throw in some beyonce tracks, docile employees who "can't handle" the customer's vivacious personality and bizarre neon lighting, then have the kid come up and do a dancing duet with their badass mom. God it's a satire of reality alright.

Oh wait I think I get it now. It seems like they've never really cared about whether or not they're appealing to fantasies that are out of their purview and have nothing to do with what they're actually selling.
That's exactly the kind of commercial that they -would- do regardless of its implausibility
i don't get why they do this disingenuous shit instead of playing to their strength, which is that eating at mcdonald's is often more convenient than not eating shit

They aren't doing single mother commercials explicitly now, if they are even showing families at all its probably always going to be ethnic units or white woman + ethnic male. I think the last commercial I saw years ago was a black man and a child, it was based around a happy meal toy.
Otherwise both of these posts are on the money, appealing to the fantasy of "family units coming together" which has nothing to do with their product is a bad idea now when more than half of their customer base has a broken family unit of some sort.
Given time for the trend of single parent homes to increase, this can come back as a "appealing to strong single women to spend time with your children between work shifts or sending your children to MickyDees when the EBT card is full (when they lobby enough to take ebt in most states)".

AFAIK, there's no term for something that opposes local traditional building methods, materials, and styles; mainly because
(1) building with materials not endemic means importing, and that costs money,
(2) not building with the usual local methods requires, again, an importing of labor,
(3) people like having a cohesive skyline or neighborhood, so even if the project owner gives it the greenlight, the neighbors might protest,
(4) those traditions aren't arbitrary, they're mostly what works in the environment; having your building not built with surroundings in mind will either drive up maintenance costs to keep it habitable, or just cause it to structurally fail.
that being said, slap on a counter to it, and badda-bing badda-boom, you've just invented counter-vernacular architecture.

They used to try and appeal to children but decided they didn't want to do that anymore but still have happy meals and childish names for food like McChicken so now they are trapped in some void between wanting to be a happy place with clowns for kids and mature for adults.

This is easiest to see in the commercials. Look up old commercials on youtube and they are mostly filled with kids and Ronald and some of his friends. The newer commercials are all filled with adults and white women dating black men.

Either way the place is garbage.

Nothing. Old design was infantile, depressing and gaudy, appealing only to fat, impulsive retards and loud normalfags who want architecture to remain stagnant in some simulation of 1950s USA for eternity. It clashes with the surrounding landscape and potential nearby buildings. The contemporary design is more mature, more futuristic and appeals to a more reserved customer-base and is less stereotypically regressive. It would also look much more fitting at night than the fucking hideous pastille coloured nightmare that is that old design.

Fucking birmingham. I could recognise that building by just glancing at the thumbnail, and it reminded me of all the hideous architecture in that city.
The worst part is that a lot of the old redbrick buildings look great, but because they were destroyed during ww2 they decided to replace them with towering, grey, lifeless shite.
Ironically the new library that was built to replace the old one somehow looks even worse.
