What's genuine vodka supposed to be made of? Grain or potato?

>> No.13718828

Standardization is gay, genuine vodka is good vodka.
Whatever you think good vodka is.

You could probably got to the liquor store and count the number of potato-based vodkas on one hand, or two if you're on the other side of the vodka belt.

I had an argument with some faggot at a bar, he insisted potato vodka is genuine vodka, I said grain is genuine because potato isn't native to Eurasia and grain has been used much longer,

If you try some different vodkas side by side you should notice a difference. A good grain vodka, and good potato vodka will taste different. When ciroc first came out, I was pretty happy with it. Slight sweetness involved. I got all the way through organic chemistry and half way through biochem before I got called out as to what's in my water bottle.

Vodka is such a brainlet drink, it has no refinement at all. The recipe is basically devoid of rules. Any starch will do.

You can make it out of either. It doesn't make a difference in the end product.

It’s all in your head. There is 0% of any of the original source material left in the liquid by the time the vodka is done distilling.

This was before I learned that vodka even came from different sources.
The fact that some brand like to advertise how many times they get filtered would imply that the process doesn't completely remove any remnants of the source.

>> No.13721303

>>13721290
If you're not in a lab, you're not going to get a perfect distillation. Even then, it's not perfect. The trace remnants affect the taste. You don't think they distill things repeatedly just for printing it on the bottle do you? If so, make some at home. Let us know how it goes.

Do yourself a favor and just get pure ethanol. Then mix it with spring water. Source of ethanol doesn't change the taste if it's distilled at least few times.

Vodka is not moonshine, Cleetus.
It is Grain Neutral Spirits.
"Grain neutral" means the source doesn't matter because unlike other liquors it is distilled to almost pure alcohol before being diluted with water for bottling.

>> No.13722339

>>13722307
Distillation doesn't completely purify the alcohol. That's why it's better to use potatoes because whatever trace amounts of the source still remaining isn't as noticeable.

>> No.13722353

>>13722307
Almost is your key word there. There will always be a hint of certain flavor. Even if you distil it many times there will be a slight hint. And that taste is visible when drinking.
