What's your go to rum? For me, it's Mount Gay XO Reserve.

>> No.13669657

Pussers Rum
Is rum the only alcohol that stays quality despite having a low price point? You can spend $25 and get a great rum, but for other spirits you need to spend 35+ for the good stuff.
It's been my go to since I got a bit sick of whiskey.

Rum is great. My Gay is good but I bought some real McCoy last time I ran out and I'm gonna stick with that, it's much better for a similar price. Barbancourt 8 year has gotta be one of the best deals in liquour: less than 30 bucks for a very nice, well aged, extremely drinkable rum. It's delicious, I'd pay twice as much for it.

Go to rum is probably Appleton Estate 12. The 21 is the best rum I ever had. Overall most rum is either oversweetened or overly harsh to my tastes so a lot of it didn't make a great impression

>>13670667
Have you ever had Caroni rum and was it all that great?

>> No.13670887

>>13670683
if you want sweet dark rum then it's gonna have to be El dorado. start with the twelve then the 15. people prefer the 15 more than the 21 yr . the 12 is sweeter than the 15. really good classic Caribbean flavors in El Dorado.

>>13670689
the 46% of course. especially if you want the traditional jamaican funk

>>13670782
Caroni is good shit. over priced honestly cause of the rarity. but if you got the money? i would say go for it but ONLY if you tried the benchmark brands of rum already and looking for something new or else you'll be kinda lost in terms of what rum flavors are

>> No.13670898

>>13670683
Also a little trick for a sweet rum like El Dorado is to chill it without any ice? put the bottle or glass in the freezer and get the rum cold af and it will literally taste like caramel and bananas

Workhorse rum for Daiquiris is Havana Club 3. Regular Appleton for Mai Tais etc. Also having Appleton 12, different Plantations and El Dorado 12 atm.

Welp ive tried lots of versions of appleton estate. Ron zacapa 23. El dorado 12. Zaya something. Diplomatico. Smith and cross. Other stuff i cant remember. Idk I feel like i know what rum tastes like i kinda liked appleton 12 because it was rich with some funk yet also dry. Is that what bottlings of caroni are like

>> No.13671109

>>13671095
Also appleton 21's richness was amazing yet it also had the dryness and slight funk going on. Is caroni more intense with regard to the funk (gasoline sting rather than intense ripe bananas)?

I've never actually seen Bacardi Havana Club for sale. I think it's just Bacardi's way of claiming rights to the name

but it looks absolutely nothing like Cuban Havana Club, and says PUERTO RICAN in big letters, so nobody's gonna be confused about which is which
