Is margarine still a thing? I recall having it as a poor kid some 130 years ago.
But what's the use for? Must be something for them poor ones.

>> No.13654295

We ate it growing up. You can keep it in the fridge and it still easily spreadable. I just use butter now. Butter is far more expensive than vegetable oil products, which is the real reason it was pushed so hard (cheaper cost of manufacture).

I get the cheapest unsalted real butter a store offers.

The prejudice against margarine is, in truth, a hatred against the poor.

I like it, and it's healthier for one.

straight up standard kerrygold is fairly spreadable straight from the fridge.

Cheap store brand butters are a pain in the ass to spread without leaving them out for a bit though.

kerrygold is retarded

i am not paying double the price for butter

yes, it is cultured, but it isn't that different and I go through a lot of butter

it is a status item more than anything, unbranded generic unsalted butter, please

>without leaving them out for a bit though.

i just put it in a bowl in the microwave for a little bit

i don't really honestly spread butter on toast that often except for when I make cinnamon toast

But that wasn't a thing way back then, it's just something new to sell fancy expensive products.

complete waste of money

buy the cheapest butter you can get that's still real butter (not the mixed with oil shit)

you will never taste the difference it is all in your head

I saw a black woman in the supermarket the other week buying Kerrygold by the stick because it is too expensive to buy in 4 8 oz stick packages like normal butter comes in. It is entirely a status item.

You were a kid 130 years ago? I only said that because i knew a family of Jews when I was growing up and they always had margarine and never butter because they are lactose intolerant.

lmao, no.

I can 100% taste the difference on toast between the $2.99 store brand and the aldi kerrygold knockoff. Grass fed makes a big difference.

I also occasionally buy Finlandia.

And during the holidays I buy an 8lb container of local farm butter and use it liberally for anything that needs butter, mashed potatoes, basing a turkey or roast, making a sauce, etc.

You absolutely cannot taste the difference it is all in your head.

You are just wasting money on fancy branding to feel better about yourself.

I use the cheapest unsalted butter for baking and it works great.

You're fucking insane if you believe there is ZERO difference in taste between low tier store brand butter and grass fed butter from a decent brand.

Also, the farm butter i buy at the holidays isn't really all that expensive, it's $5/lbs Which sure, is more than standard butter, but it's still $3-4/lbs cheaper than kerrygold.

no shit, i still use cheap store brand butter for anything that the butter flavor doesn't mean jack shit for.

Except during the holidays when i have the farm butter because it's the holidays and i'm being decadent.

Most baked goods for example, i use cheap shit store brand butter.

If i'm making butter croissants or something, i'm gonna use good butter.

I've done it both ways, and with margarine too.
