their flavor is pretty negligible in a burger, you can taste them if you were just eating the bun by itself but it's hard to notice them with meat, condiments and cheese. i prefer them without cause it's just a waste of extra added calories that add barely anything.

It’s really not something you notice as a taste or textural difference. That being said, I think it comes down to if you preferred McDonalds or Burger King as a kid. Kids always order kids meals which come with a regular burger and the McDonald’s version had no sesame seeds while the Burger King version had sesame seeds. Being a child you associate the presence or lack there of sesame seeds with the flavor of the burger as a whole so when you see sesame seeds or don’t see them you will expect the flavor of one restaurant over the other.
