They target impluse shoppers and anyone who likes the branded product already. The cinnamon poptart ones are actually pretty enjoyable, but a lot of the others suck.

When I was a kid growing up, we had rice with practically every dinner meal, and a LOT of it. Whatever we didn't eat for dinner, my dad would serve to me and my brother in a bowl with milk and sugar. At first we disliked it, but growing up I grew a taste for it, and now I actually enjoy it. I don't have it as often as I did, but once in a while i'll pour some cooked rice in a bowl, pour some milk in, sprinkle in some sugar and enjoy myself a bowl.

Rice Krispies because you can do anything with them. Sliced fruit, with a drizzle of maple syrup, and if you don't want cereal you can make treats out of them. And if want more flavor right out of the box, they come in chocolate, strawberry, and frosted now.
