What was your favorite restaurant that has since been closed. What did they serve? Did they just go out of business or did the health inspector shut them down? What's in their place now?

For me, it was a Texan BBQ spot in Hawaii called Iron Imu, best ribs you've ever eaten and great banana pudding for desert. We'd go there every year on vacation and always stop by at least once because it was so good. I guess the Hawaiians didn't like southern food as much so it went out of business, which is shame.

Burger place in Washington state, can’t remember where exactly it was but it around the Seattle area, it was called mealtime, bunch of gooks owned the place. Fucking amazing burgers and I always sat at the galaga table with my mom. Man being a kid was the best, we went back for my 13th birthday because we hadn’t been in a few years and it was gone and a fucking cvs stood in its place. I’ll forever remember you mealtime and your workers who didn’t speak English!

There used to be a nice little hot pot restaurant in my neighborhood back when I lived in Massachusetts. They served an 'every cut platter' with a bunch of different beef cuts, including tongue. Good stuff. Went out of business in 2012 or 2013.

sounds interesting for there to be a texas bbq place in Hawaii. Similarly, there is a hawaiin food place here in Texas. they have excellent chicken, especially for a (smaller) chain. I hope they don't close

yeah it was odd, they had these giant Imu grills and I think the people who own them still use them for catering. They had a cool play room for kids too.

It was also the first place I ever saw a tranny in real life. Big giant-jawed dude with fingernail polish on at the register, on the drive home we all laughed at xim, because nobody cared back then. Good times.

An udon and rice bowl restaurant in boston called Ittyo. It was in a little strip with a bunch of other tiny japanese and korean places. Had the best chicken rice bowls, the best potato croquets, and the most satisfying udon. I ate there almost every day for a while. None of the other restaurants in that strip even come close.

My favorite restaurant closed in 2011. We had our wedding reception there in 2010. We went there at least once a week, even if just for drinks. The owner was young - 27 when he closed it. He, his father and one brother got into the Cash-4-Gold business, and started making ridiculous bank. Plus, no more being at the restaurant at 0400 to let the produce guy in after closing at 0200.

He did that for a couple of years, and moved to Hawaii where he started a food truck on some famous beach. Fat bank. He moved back home last year and essentially retired. He's 35.

A restaurant called Knossos in my town that was like a fast food Greek place...kebabs, tzatziki sauce, and fries on the quick.

Ponderosa Steakhouse

Part of me misses Chi-Chis and Don Pablos but not sure why

For me it was "The Taco Shop" in Amsterdam. It was a tex mex restaurant done right. I spoke to the owner and he wanted to retire and go back to the US. It was one of those places where fireman, police and ambulance people would wait in line (they usually know the best places in town). A real shame it's a french restaurant now.

One of the best lunches I've ever had. I went on a few dates here, took some friends here, and when I went to Google maps to check their opening time I learned they had permanently closed. What a bummer.

There was a tex mex pub near me, it was both cheap and good food. The owner got sick of it after ten years and sold to a bunch of soyboys who ran it into the ground within three months

La Palmas a mexican restaurant I was eating at before I was born and ate there for . They closed in 2005 I personally ate there for 39 years. They were the bench mark for Tex Mex food. The owner had died, his son was not very interested in the business so when CVS offered him $7,000,000 for the property he took it. He supposedly was going to open a new restaurant but that never happened.

Now I go to Valle Luna which is almost exactly the same food.

Operators of a cafe in my hometown were getting real sick of hospitality. A real shame, best food and big nostalgia.

a local chinese place near me. food was awesome. had really nice sichuan stuff and I liked everything on the menu that I tried. they shut down without warning and now it's an overpriced ramen place with really small portions. maybe run by the same people but I really don't like it the time i went and tried it.

For me it’s Panchos Mexican Buffet. I’m pretty sure I read they’re still some open in California, but in my state and the next state over they went out of business for some reason... I also read despite the fact that the stores they had open weren’t losing profit, it’s still a mystery I can’t figure out and it’s heart breaking as they had such a tasteful buffet line and one could order as much soapillas as they could. In its place is the buffet, they never changed the store or even brought the sign and decorations down... it’s like seeing a portrait of a dead family member.
