Is it just me or does anybody else find plating incredibly douchy and pretentious?

>> No.13511143

yes anon, putting food on plates is incredibly douchy and pretentious

They're trying to create an art piece and not something edible.
So fuck em, I want something presented simply that is delicious.

Nope. It's just you.

Something visually appetising will enhance the flavour so a little forethought
and effort into the presentation of a dish I do not find douchy. Considering the amount of time researching recipes, sourcing ingredients, prepping ingredients and actual cooking, a few minutes at the end to present something presentable is relatively speaking very little effort, failure todo so I'd say very lazy.

However "food art" like OPs tomato salad is fucking stupid. Wtf is that yellow black shit to the side, vinaigrette? Do I eat it? Why why why. And idgaf how well dressed the snazzy city queer restaurant manager is, I want be paying your exorbitant prices.

>> No.13511265

Idk, it makes it look more appetizing to me. I know its just looks but it looks like it would taste better than if you had just just shoved tomatoes on a plate.

It can be, but to call all plating douchy and pretentious is silly. Even short order cooks plate their dishes. The only time a dish is not plated is when it is served buffet or family style, and then it is still presented in some way (even if unceremoniously dumped into a hotel pan).

>> No.13511501

Plating is okay and pretty much part of the food process, but the muh empty space shit is cancer.

this, food comes through your eyes first but OP's image is just over the top pretentious shit

You are poor or dumb or both and seethe when you se etchings you can’t have or don’t understand. The only reason you consider it pretentious is because it is beyond your reach

its mega cringe, but I actively keep myself away from faggots who do this so it doesn't bother me.

yeah
really what people mean when they say "i hate plating" is "i hate the style of plating common in high cuisine"

there is also a element of cope from people who can afford/wouldn't fit in at places that plate in that style

>>13511828
oh fuck off lmao, anyone with $50 can get into one of these restaurants, its pretentious shit.

I think that the dipping areas so attractive that instead of having 4 dipping areas for dipping the mousse into, you should have 6. Because, and I find that this happens more often on Thursday nights than any other night of the week, people seem to be running out of dipping areas before they run out of mousse.
