I wouldn't leave water in my room overnight, but it's not because of what OP said.

It's because bugs, insects, spiders, or mites can get into the water while you're asleep and lay their eggs. Spiders in particular will often come out during the night when it's dark in your room. Unless it's a big spider, the eggs are often so small you can't see them or at least don't notice them, so there's no way to know if you have eggs in your water or not.
