Why not pledge to do something like only drink moderately. A better pledge is to drink alcohol to enhance a food pairing, 1-2 glasses max. And, maybe never on a work night.

that's easy for me, since I don't drink alcohol.
it's a poison, except for treating methanol and antifreeze poisoning.

Drinking alcohol to me is like huffing glue or paint. It's an intoxicant that has destroyed so many lives and makes people so incredibly sick.

cook your own food. bake your own bread, make beans, get a pressure cooker, mixer, etc. that will keep you busy so you won't drink. Baking bread is also something you can occupy yourself with in the evening.
also consider getting bike trainer for a road bike, using a bike trainer + watching youtube (use controller and controller companion) is another thing you can do in the evening instead of getting drunk.

Slowly taper off. Don't go cold turkey or you might get a seizure. Alcohol is one of the most dangerous drugs to detox on. Even heroin or meth can't cause instant death.
What I did was go one beer less every couple of days. It will still suck and you will probably get shaky, depressed and anxious but it's worth it in the long run. Also the loss of appetite sucks dick. Just stay strong.

>How has it saved lives? I feel like that’s not usually what happens.
I don't really care about your feelings, stop telling people about them.
The easiest reference to alcohol saving people's lives is Winston Churchill. There's no other combination of exercise, OTC drugs, scripts, or anything that gets one person through that amount of stress.
Alcohol has long been used as a stress modifier but becuase some people suffer even more when using it, everyone else who benefits has to suffer
Had Churchill not been drunk enough, Britian would not have had enough airplanes to win the Battle of Britain. Germany would have invaded and occupied the UK, slaughtered many people, and the subsequent campaign to topple Hitler would have been ever more costly in lives.

Winston drank like a fish, certainly far over what's considered 'Alcoholic' today, and he lived until his 80s and remained lucid throughout.

Among many hundreds of thousands of historical examples.

But I loathe and pity you recovery fags and your current upswing on decreasing religion in the West.
People don't have proper religion and instead of treating themselves for the condition, they simply swap religions.
For Lefties it's multicult and environment
For eveyrone else it's Puritanical standards about smoking and alcohol.
You are both horrible cancerous cults, and this is a Food and Cooking board.

If you were doing the sports, you'd be correct.
What you're really doing is getting a simulation of teamwork and camraderie, it's so bald-faced
And you don't benefit, given that you could be spending your Rec time so much more richly.
Instead you are enricing people who hate you
Bosses and Owners
A bunch of Casinos
A media that hates and lies to you

You need to get off the sportsball. Cooking brings people together.

On January 8th it will be four years to the day since I quit drinking. Despite all the physical and mental damage my alcoholism did - and it bears mentioning, this includes getting an almost-fatal staph infection from drinking out a broken whiskey bottle, which was surgically excised without anaesthetic due to its location on my upper lip - I didn't quit drinking until I was given a six-pack of leftover beer from a New Years party and I realized that I would never be able to do the same, because the concept of having "leftover beer" was to me a complete impossibility.

tl;dr you really don't need a good reason to quit drinking, and not everybody needs sobriety, but if you are an alcoholic then you can get your life back if you stop drinking. Anyone can do it.
