I've enjoyed all the rums I've tried, but I wanted to get a sense for what else might be worth searching for. Currently drinking pic related that I got for Christmas, and it's the first spirit I've tried that's so smooth I can take time to savor it, without any burn. What rum do you like best, /ck/?

At a similar price point, Ron Solera 23. I liked it better than the Diplomatico.
Going a bit cheaper, Mount Gay XO.

this is my go to mixer, I think it's real good for the price. I haven't sampled any of their other stuff but bayou has apparently won a bunch of awards.

Solera aging is underappreciated. If you guys drink whiskey, try out Hillrock, it's bourbon with the same gimmick.
For me, it's gonna be the weird blended rum put out by a local craft distillery. It's called "The Rum Cooperative."

I’m on the hunt for a straight, smooth sipping rum. Tried Mount Gay XO for Christmas, this is not what I’m looking for. It’s not bad, but not as smooth as I’d like. I want something that I can cuddle up with the bottle like an old hobo and spend the evening getting warm and toasty sipping it straight.

How much do you want to spend?
If money is no object, Foursquare rum is great.

Under $50 a bottle would be nice if it’s going to be my mainstay, but I’m not a huge drinker a bottle will last me months so I’m not afraid of going higher, especially when I’m still on the hunt.
My old reliable was Whaler’s Vanillé but a decade or so they changed it from a sweet smooth brown to a cloyingly sweet artificial vanilla medicinal tasting clear.

Yikes.
Seriously, try out Volume 2 from the Rum Cooperative if you live anywhere in the northeast.

that's my go-to rum, OP. I love that shit

Flor de Caña 18yr is my favorite. It's not as expensive as you imagine, because you don't swig it with Coca-Cola. Sip it like scotch, and savor the smell.

Flor de Caña 12 year.

Someone suggested that I swirl the Mount Gay XO around with an ice cube before drinking it.
That defeats the purpose of having something I can sip straight from the bottle, but I have it a try.
The result was amazing. It went from a meh rum to a slightly colder more dilute meh rum. Who woulda thunk it?
