I had kind of moved on from bothering to watch his later stuff as it had gotten too political (his South Africa CNN show episode was the most historically blind piece of media I've never seen, and then he tried and failed to make the Congo look like a nice place), but it still hit me when I heard he had died.
I had spent a lot of hours in college watching No Reservations and his attitude towards everything had really jived with me, almost felt like losing a distant friend.

I think living in NYC is such a financial stretch and drain for the working class, that if you aren't coming in already rich, you really only scrape by year after year, and thus, not good parent material.
