Why do my parents insist on putting the leftover food away so quick? They think it's going to "go bad" or "dry out" if it sits out for 2 hours. Now I have to unwrap everything one at a time and heat it up from cold. This is bullshit. Does anyone else have parents like this?

They do it when it is convenient for them, not you. Just make extra for later before they put the ingredients away and clean up. They probably don't want to wait too late to do the dishes.

>> No.13412945

At least they bother to do it at all, nowadays my mother likes to make dinner and go to bed without putting it away, and it'll be stuff like soup and just get absolutely fucked after sitting out all night and have to be thrown out

Prove to her you are a big boy and sneak your food in your room to eat whenever you want.

Sounds like my Filipino gf and her mom, except they'll just reheat it anyway. They will eat the rice too, even if it starts to smell funky.

My parents are both like that.

My father goes buying fresh baked bread, dumps it all in the freezer and defrost what he needs at lunch and dinner. He basically buys fresh bread every day only to eat defrosted crappy bread every single day of his life.

My mother makes elaborate recipes and freezes them 1 hour after making them. Delicious lasagne she spent 4 hours making? In the freezer already because dinner was 20 minutes ago.

I've given up on them anon. You can't change them.

Actually, bread does stay fresher if it is frozen. Shame your mom freezes her leftovers so soon, though.

But what is even the point if you buy fresh bread everyday and you never even eat it anyway? Why even buy a fresh crunchy baguette if you're going to eat a limp defrosted one? I just don't get it.

probably because the FDA recommended to only leave food out for up to two hours to avoid getting sick, but that's basically to ensure even at risk people with immune issues won't get sick. if you're healthy then you don't have to be that strict, but don't go too far in the other direction where you leave food out until it actually does spoil and eat it anyway because you don't get violently ill every time.

>> No.13413225

>>13413192
There isn't any point if they're going to eat it before freshness is a concern. But, there's the kernel of truth. I try to focus on what they're doing right, since like you said, you can't change them.

No because my parents aren't morons. Also just make a plate for yourself before they put it all away dumdum.

The vast majority of foods can stay "out" for hours if not days. Fridges are pretty fucking new compared to the concept of food. The purpose of a fridge is to make things last a little longer, not give them the property of lasting longer.

>> No.13413364

They put it away when they are done because they know your lazy ass isn’t going to.
The best part is a few posts down we have people complaining about the opposite situation, stuff being left out for them. Do they put it away? Fuck no!
For fucks sake, get your shit together anons

>puts it away before you can eat it
or
>someone else makes food
>expects you to put it away despite you having nothing to do with it
I could see the argument going both ways. Just pretend it's not parents and it's roommates or something. Makes either argument much more reasonable. Though of course complaining about it either way is a bitch move, live and let live.
