You can literally get everything for Birdwatchers wash at the grocery store. The epsom salts and campden tablets are beneficial, but not necessary. Scale to your still size.

You can make a simple pot still with a stock pot & lid, some copper tubing, a big bucket, silicone/other sealant, and a healthy amount of rye paste (~3:1 rye flour to water). No welding or soldering required.

Absolutely. But since it's just 1 atmosphere you can use PTFE tape which you can buy in bulk for nothing and it'll seal as well as paste. I can start and finish a 3 handle booze run in 3 hours and not even blink.

I made a lot of shit before I made good booze and learned from it. Coldfingers are good, but they're hard to make without refrigeration copper. My liebig is a modified version with a waterfall effect in the tube. I crushed it with a side cutters so it would bounce around and cool faster, making it shorter.

I toss the first 150ml of foreshots on a 10 gallon run, but considering I'm not using fruit as the distillation ferment, It's pointless. Besides that. Does wine kill you when you drink too much? Because it has the most methanol in it possible. That methanol shit was a 1920s scam where they actually poisoned the booze themselves and killed people to make them afraid.
