Swiss here. Hersheys tastes like a bar of hardened palm oil with corn syrup. The cheapest 100g bar of chocolate here in Switzerland is about 50c and it's miles above any of your gringo chocolates.

Vomit tends to taste somewhat sweet because of the digestive process, so vomit-flavored chocolate is much more similar to real vomit and thus more offputting than vomit-flavored cheese.

Even fucking plain Marabou tastes better than american luxury chocolate. It's god awful and tastes like it's made of dust with bad chocolate flavor.
I have family in the states and whenever they come here to visit and bring chocolate it's always "wow, gee, thanks a lot...." and then it gets stored in the basement until whenever the fuck its five years past "best before" date and I throw it out.

Perception bias mostly. Blind taste tests show that most people cannot distinguish chocolates and consistently gravitate towards mid-tier brands and sweeter formulas. If you want to talk about actual differences then American chocolate tends to have a lower cacao content and higher sugar content compared to Euro chocolates and American chocolate usually sources its beans from South America while Europe usually sources its beans from Africa.

The default Hershey's bar is one of the shittiest chocolate candies you could choose. I feel sorry for any Yurobean who tries one out thinking it's the best we have to offer. Their dark and caramel flavors are a lot better, but so many other common brands BTFO them.
