What usually happens is that some specific issue goes viral and then groups form on wechat to sort-of protest (nothing like occupy movement obviously). This has happened with some dog food restaurants, animal abuse cases, things like that.

Those webms are not a common thing, it's some novelty restaurant somewhere doing gimmicky shit like that which people are paying a premium for. A lot are probably in Guangzhou which admittedly does have a tolerance for eating basically anything. Years and years ago, I saw stacks of cages of kittens outside a restaurant we went into, it was a tourist restaurant so it might have just been for tourists who wanted to come to China and eat fucked up shit.
