but I think a way to solve that would be to butterfly one of the two weiners with a long vertical cut and then put it in the middle of that weiner
you'd be able to put toppings or condiments both inside and on the sides of the top dog
alternatively you could flip them the other direction and use the same cheap standard buns but with a differently textured dog on top since if you butterfly it before hand it'll cook faster

I'm Sweden we have something called hel special (whole special) which is basically this with mashed potatoes on top. Common condiments are ketchup, mustard, fried onions, shrimp salad and relish. There's also halv special (half special) which is the same but with only one dog.
