there was this girl at rehab who cut herself all down her arms and legs and she liked to knit I guess and she had these big ass knitting kneedles, crochet hooks, I'm not sure but they kept them in a sharps cabinet and poor girl had to ask for them every time she wanted to use them.

Odd, I spent about a year on an acute psych ward and I was allowed to keep diagonal cutters to work on my plastic models. I wasn't a self-harm risk, but I shared a room with six (original capacity was four) other patients, several of whom were self-harm risks, and none of us had locking drawers.
There were no cases of injury while I was there.

Ah, my mother did have a Dansk biscuit tin she used for storage, but she worked for Maersk Logistics so I didn't think much of it.

There's not much to talk about before this becomes another blogpost. The "programs" made by the nurses are barebones, and mostly just fill the time before your weekly visit with the doctor. It's strangely horrifying, as pretty much everyone else in there often decides to take advantage of the "well, i'm crazy, may as well do whatever I want" card. The quickest way out, as I learned from a veteran, is to say that you're "okay".

Where I am, it takes two doctors to commit a patient (though, I was once 'commited' by a doctor who wasn't supposed to be at the hospital at the time I walked away. I heard of two cases of sex on the ward. One was homosexual and not consensual in the men's wing. Another was consensual and heterosexual in the only room of the men's wing reserved for two people. Me? I fucking dealt with sleeping with five other men, including a chronic masturbater and a married man with flesh-eating virus.

I was allowed a emotional support chainsaw when I ended up in the loony bin, the noise used to calm me to sleep at night but the nurses would turn it off once I was gone as not to set of the fire alarm (it was two-stroke, electric ones were soulless to me).

My oma used to bring those cookies back from Germany. The flat white bottom reminded me of a drink coaster.
