I tried Ethiopian food about 10x while living in D.C....it sucked each and every time. I really can't overstate how it's the one culture's food I consider utter garbage tier.

The gummy poi tasting sticky teff flour, injera pancake is inferior to every other kind of bread in the world. It adds nothing to the meal, simply a tool where no other tool can be made or afforded. It detracts from the meal.
There's something wrong with the country's idea of spice profiles in general. Sugar and aromatics used at abandon, in an oppositely appropriate fashion. It's poverty food, where spices are cheap, so they are used at random.
Every time I tried a dish, I was thinking that India, Pakistan and every version of Persian recipes get it right, and Ethiopia got it wrong. Sorry, but there's a problem with desert climate foods in general, but this one sucks the most.

I won't even talk about the hands in there at the same time, trying to pick up wet food with gummy bread. It's stupid. Switch to shawarma or afghani food next time you want some foreign experience.
