Yes I bought this myself (it technically was 4.12 for 0.83 pounds). I work at Kroger and go even on my days off to shop so I'm always looking at the mark downs, and since I know the meat market folks they usually tell me if there's anything really good. Plus I know their timing of marking stuff down so I am around for first picks. But you can usually get family packs of some cut of steak for 5.99/pound, check the online sales ad on Wednesdays. Last week I got about a 20 ounce pack (1.23 pounds) of tenderloin for 9.20. Filet is the bomb.

OP, did you use some sort of pre-mixed seasoning like Mccormick grill mates? That would explain the burnt rather than seared appearance, as well as what appears to be grit on your cutting surface. Also the top portion appears to have been cooked slightly more than the bottom. Other than these peccadilloes I'm fine with the internal appearance, I like rare. Also, did you cut with a serrated knife? That may explain the rough cut appearance, but that's not going to change the flavor. If you liked it that's really all that matters, but I've gotten all sorts of shit from /ck/ for steaks I've posted and I've improved because of the criticism.
