How was that racist? I'm genuinely curious what OP's first language is, because most languages have a term for beef that is roasted that's directly related to roast beef: rosbif, rosbife, rosbief, roastbiff, rostbraten, Pócтбиф, ローストビーフ, etc.

You should be able to get a loaf of bread and small amount of meat and cheese from the deli for under $5 that will actually last you several meals and not just one. Last time I saw this pic posted people said he's from a band which means they were always traveling and probably didn't want to eat endless mcdonalds meals. So you can stop the tour bus at a grocery store and buy a few things for a lower price that will be much higher quality and more satisfying than some shitty fast food combo.

>> No.13240225

>>13240180
You're also missing vegetables, sauces, spices, etc. So.. Obviously price/meal comes down but suddenly you're not just buying a sandwich or two. That's really excellent for people that have a kitchen and fridge in their car. For the rest of us, I don't understand how you can get a decent hot meal for less than fast food chains can spit them out to you.

Also any food sold in commercial establishments in first world nations isn't exactly trash. It's fatty due to deep fried and typically salty, but it tastes pretty good and it's cheap. Tastes miles better than what 90% of this board makes. Doesn't have to be HEALTHY to be GOOD. Memers keep confusing those terms.

>> No.13240261

>>13240225
Yeah but fast food burger joints don't exactly have vegetables other than french fries. I think the quote is just supposed to be him saying that he'd rather have roast beef and cheese on bakery bread over a big mac if he must choose between the two on the road. I agree with that, if that's what he meant to say, because fast food gets old, repetitive, and unappetizing real quick. And if you have any way of storing some food then you could buy mustard and pickles once that last a while.

>> No.13240384

>>13240261
Perhaps. Without a place to store some food though, it doesn't make much sense. We're also still assuming he's "sick of fast food" which isn't an assumption to make when someone makes a generic statement like that.

Personally, even some good meat/cheese/bread (which would be far more expensive than a fast food meal, here at least) won't be as good as a big mac. Without some heat, a condiment, and lettuce at a bare minimum, it's more like a picnic snack: entirely different taste, not necessarily in a good way. Add another meal element (maybe some fruit etc to replace the fries, or even a bag of chips etc) and a drink, and you're FAR more expensive than a McDonald's meal. I've done the math: in Canada, even if you buy in "normal bulk" ie normal grocery store quantities not some industrial wholesale bullshit, McDonald's is right around the same price per meal as making burgers and fries yourself. Close enough to not really care about it being more or less expensive. It's impressive that their scale has made their prices what they are, desu.

Same goes for certain pizza places: pizza's fucking expensive to make, not even including the equipment (like pizza stones, etc) that you need to make it any good.

>Doesn't have to be HEALTHY to be GOOD. Memers keep confusing those terms.
Actually, it doesn't have to be healthy to TASTE good. The word good, especially in the measure of FOOD, on its own, can never be applied to something that is unhealthy. The key word is 'taste'. Good food tastes good and is good for you. Cheap fast food tastes good but is not good for you. Hence, it is not good food, even if it tastes comforting.
But you can have the best of both worlds if you lurk long enough and/or learn how to actually cook, and even if you're too lazy to make something that tastes good and is good for you, it's still more 'good' to have a dish that's healthy and not salty/sugary than a dish that tastes good but is not healthy.

>> No.13240446

>>13240384
I drink water and don't want to eat shitty fast food, so I think it would be much better to eat the bread ($1/fresh loaf), roast beef ($2/quarter lb tops), and cheese (cents for a slice) plus maybe a mustard packet you can grab for free with a glass of FREE cold water than shove a big mac, fries, and coke down my throat. The point is people take this quote out of context when he's talking about traveling on the road as a touring band whose only options would have been crappy fast food or quickly running into the supermarket. There are a shitload of way better things I would eat day to day living at home, but I think he has a point for being on the road with a band that isn't massively rich yet. I'd get a 7/11 boiled egg, cheese stick, and banana before resorting to fast food.

>> No.13240535

>>13240414
I'll concede to that; it was the taste I was referring to, and I fully agree that anybody who actually tries can make better food (in quality, taste, and/or healthiness) than most fast food places, BUT it tends to be more expensive.

>> No.13240567

>>13240446
Few questions, you may have answers, but where I live I don't have these answers:

1) Where are you getting a cold glass of water from when away from home?
2) Who sells literally 2 slices of cheese?
3) where are you finding a decent loaf, or ANY loaf, of bread for a dollar?
4) Meat seems reasonable but something that cheap won't exactly be "quality" either.
5) you're making another stop for a mustard/mayo/whatever packet? Delis, the only places that might sell small qty of cheese, don't have that shit lying around.
6) you're still missing any vegetables. You've just made a meat sandwich, not really a burger.
7) stealing hand warmers to make it warm?

If you're sick of fast food I get it, do something else. But this is becoming ridiculous just to avoid "le big terribad fast food" when you want a burger on the road.

>in the US at deli counters you can get any amount of cheese you want by weight, you can get as much or as little as you want
>in the US many grocery stores, even fancy ones, have either a full or half loaf of decent bread for a dollar but never been too far into flyover-ville
>$8/lb decent roast beef at the deli is pretty normal here though premium ones might be more like $11/lb
>if you're on the road you're bound to stop somewhere, at some point, with mustard and other condiment packages that you can all grab a handful of
>buy whatever vegetables you want as it's not exactly expensive to buy some fresh green beans, lettuce, cucumbers, cabbage, etc. if you're already at a grocery store. Clearly this is a situation where you want to buy something that is good raw without cooking or anything else, so I think green beans ($1.80/lb) are a good one for that.

it's a typical british recipe. it's basically a large piece of beef tied with kitchen string and cooked in a pan and then in the oven until medium-rare or medium. its usually thinly sliced and eaten cold or at room temperature. you can also use it to make sandwiches.

Trying to do you a favor. There isn't much else you can buy as a side on the cheap other than a single fruit or something. But if you wanted fruit you wouldn't be considering fast food at all.. Trying to keep the meals as similar as possible.

Obviously doing it your way and moving your goalposts all the way to a water fountain is going to make fast food seem more expensive. Comparing apples to apples though, buying only the sandwich at a fast food joint is anywhere between $2 and $5, which as you can see is difficult to do on your own. And also doesn't solve the problem of: where the fuck are you making this sandwich? Buying plates/cutlery? Shit keeps adding up.

I'm cheap as fuck and have to travel a lot, I've definitely thought about this. If I'm in a hotel for more than 3-4 days I'll buy the shit I need, but less than that and it doesn't make sense. If I'm really planning ahead I'll pack disposable dinnerware in my luggage.

By the way combo meals in places like CT on i95 are over $10 for the cheapest one. This guy is probably saying he doesn't want nasty fast food shit for $12 per combo when he can get like $4 of decent food at a grocery store. You're missing the entire fucking point. He's not talking about a fully nutritious complete meal. He's talking about something you can stand to eat that is a fraction of the price that won't give the shits and indigestion while you're on the road. At home I always have onions, garlic, fresh herbs, butter, meat, grains, legumes, and other fresh produce to make use of. I'm sorry that the only way you see a meal being tolerable is if it's crap fast food with fries or chips and soda. That'a disgusting as fuck. I'm sure you could eat an entire raw vegetable meal with a bit of cheese for cheap to. And besides he's talking about feed and entire tour bus so he's not even buying for just one person on a tiny scale. You're a fucking idiot.

I'm happy for you and your modest vegetable collection. Doesn't mean a cheap value meal is not the best way to purchase a burger meal on the road, which was the whole argument here. Buying a sandwich at a fast food place vs buying the components for a sandwich while travelling are comparable ideas, and I'm saying buying the components does not make much sense, for taste or value. This info re: a tour bus or some shit is irrelevant and was never part of this discussion.

Obviously, buying an expensive fast food meal does not compare well to eating vegetables at home or buying half the components for a sandwich, for health or cost purpose. It also doesn't compare well.. In any sense of the term. So why fucking compare them.

Can't even see your goalposts anymore. They're simply too far away.

Look at this retard.
You can get a sub style roll for a fucking quarter. Roast beef you don't even really need a quarter pound but benefit of the doubt 2 bucks, cheese slices multiple maybe a dollar. and thats like fucking smoked Gruyere or sharp cheddar. so far we're at 3.25. Want som grun? add some peppers, green bell or jalapeno if you like spice. Mayonnaise packets are a thing, same with mustard. bell pepper is maybe 50 scents if they're jewing you, same with the jalepeno. so for 3.75 we've got a damn fine sandwich, throw in a bag of chips for a dollar, if you really want them, fat ass. or get a piece of fibrous fruit, or some green beaners like home boy said.

Also 5 dollar value meal ain't a fucking big mac, nigger, its maybe a piss poor double cheeseburger, small fries and drink. And none of this is canada funny money, look up your damn value meal and cry, then come back and post pics of tears.
